What happened with the quality?

I have been a loyal customer of Samsonite for 15 years. I always knew that if you buy Samsonite product you will love it and use it for a long time. Unfortunately, this did not happen with a backpack. In less than one-year zipper of the front pocket started ripping off... This defect is super visible, and now the backpack looks cheap.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

After my laptop bag was stolen I decided to make the switch to a backpack for work. I researched for a long time before deciding on the essential mobile solutions backpack but ended up returning it due to being too small for my needs. Getting my laptop in and out with other contents in the bag was a pain. I originally was reluctant to go with the deluxe version thinking I wouldn't like the top flap access. I thought it would make things harder to access in the bottom but decided to get it anyway because the price of these backpacks are really great for what you get. I just received it in the mail today and boy was I wrong!!! I LOVE the top flap access, it makes getting my laptop in and out much much easier than trying to slide the lip of the other style backpack over my laptop to zip it. The size is perfect to hold my 15" laptop, a small tablet, my lunchbox, my notebook, a small makeup bag and my power cord in the main compartment. The cords I keep with me both fit nicely in the interior zip pocket, my phone charger lives In the interior mesh pocket on the flap, and my mouse, mouse pad, business cards, and phone are easily accessible from the front zipper pocket. By far my favorite features are the side zippers!! The one on the left is significantly bigger than the one on the right...its big enough to hold a large wallet/clutch, a small water bottle, or an umbrella. I bought a large wallet that holds my phone and has a place to attach my keys so I can just use it as a purse when I don't want to take my backpack in and it fits perfectly. The other side pocket is smaller and is made for your keys, and comes with a leash for them to attach safely. Bought a retractable keychain n so I no longer have to even take them out. Could not be more perfect...it's like they designed it for me. If you're on the fence buy it you will not be disappointed!

Could be a great product needs some improvements

Love the style, the different pockets, the size, the fact it's light weight. Purchased end of November and have used it to travel and for work. Would get 5 stars if: 1) it had side pockets for water bottle and umbrella (currently doesn't have either) 2) the zipper already broke after only a month. They want to charge for shipping and repair.... might be cheaper and easier to have it repaired by my local shoe repair store. For the amount of money spent on the backpack would have hoped to get more than just 30 days out of it. Samnsonite very disappointing, they state they provide high end products and stand behind them.... until they really need to stand behind them, then they simply don't!

Cons: Bad Zippers, Poor Quality, Weak Seams

I really like this backpack a lot!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like the Samsonite Mobile Solution Deluxe Backpack. It has lots of compartments where I can be organized and easily locate items. There are compartments for both my laptop and tablet. There is plenty of room for my makeup train case. I can also keep both my pens and keys easily accessible. I also love that it fits on the extending handle on my suitcase. The only reason that I deducted a star is because I would prefer to have the product in leather. Unfortunately, I think this material cheapens the look of a high quality bag. But, the material is very easy to keep clean, which is a great asset. The hardware is also great. The color makes it stand out, and the zippers glide easily. I really wish I were able to give 4 1/2 stars.

This backpack is a game changer

I work from all over and carry "my office" place to place. This backpack not only looks stylish, vs me looking like a college student or a backpacker, it has room for everything I need. The light colored inner compartments and the fact it stands on its own, and the top opens wide-- I find everything I need without having to rummage around. And the material is light so it doesn't add additional weight. "If" I could change anything it would be to add a place for a water bottle-- not a deal breaker though because there's enough room inside to stow it. People always admire it and ask me where it's from to get one themselves!

I need a work bag for travel that can serve as a purse as well, can hold a large laptop, and all other things needed for both work and travel. This fits everything beautifully and comfortably. Plenty of compartments, padded shoulder straps, zippers that open smoothly, and doesn't look bulky when full. It's a darker gray than in the photo, which I prefer. I'm 4'11", so most professional women's bags don't fit me; thus, this is a welcome change if you don't mind using a backpack instead of a tote.
