Better than expected, better than hoped

To prepare for my retiring, we decided to cut expenses and buy a lawn mower. This 80V cordless mower turned to be a perfect purchase. It saved enough in one summer to pay for itself and the battery, which was nice, but the other benefits became obvious through that summer. It is light, so getting out and mowing is not a laborious activity, and it is quiet, so my ears aren't worn out. When you let go of the power lever, the motor shuts off, making it silent and conserves the battery. It doesn't emit fumes or require filling, transporting, and storing a gas can. There are many fewer mechanical parts to maintain and divine reasons for it not working. The 5Ah battery does my front and back yards (100' by 50' each). It probably would last longer, by I charge the battery immediately after use so that the degree of discharge is minimized, making the battery have a longer life overall. Its easy to clean: just take the battery out and powerwash its undercarriage. There is one simple and easy height adjustment lever. The cruise control is nice to have for thicker patches, but I rarely use it since it uses more of the battery. It is powerful enough to plow through thick and tall grass, and if it senses that it needs more power, it automatically delivers it for as long as it needs to. I will have to wait to see how long the batteries last. They are expensive (as are competing companies' batteries) and it would be a shame if they didn't last long. If that's the case, Greenworks could follow the lead of those companies that provide a corded adapter that plugs into the battery slot. In any case, at the time of this writing, I am thrilled with this mower and the company in general.

First go at electric mower

I bought this mower a month or so ago. It is the first electric mower I have ever used or purchased. Have mowed with it 8-10 times and have decided to return it. Just doesn’t have adequate power to do the job on a residential yard that gets mowed every 4-5 days. Leaves clumps of gras clippings all over whether mulching or using the bag. Won’t even blow off or pick up the dust and clippings that end up on the sidewalk.

I love this mower... I'm a 64 year old female that does all of our yard work..it's so easy and lightweight compared to our gas ,self propelled John Deere mower.. I'll never buy another gas mower.. thanks for making my life easier.

I have lived in my home for 11 years and in 2015 was unable to mow the lawn due to my lungs having Pulmonary Fibrosis. I was unable to push are gas mower. So we bought the 80v self propelled Green Works lawn mower. I have no problem with this mower. It is durable, quick and the battery is very reliable.

Poor Battery 🔋

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this product couple weeks ago and tried it for the first time with full charge battery but it died half way through the process. I had to wait until I had the power again since I had to charge it again to use it. Company advertised stating you can cut half an acre with single charge which isn’t true. I’m pretty sure I will be returning this product.

Hello Raj45,
We're sorry to hear that you are not fully satisfied with your current run time. It is important to recognize that the run time depends on the load acting against the unit and fluctuates depending on the height setting, the terrain, grass height, type of grass, whether you are mulching, operator technique, etc. - there are so many factors to consider. The harder the unit must work, the quicker the battery charge will drain. Similar to how the gas in a vehicle will deplete quicker when driving at higher speeds or carrying more weight.
Here are a few tips to extend your run time! 1) When cutting thick grass, reduce walking speed in order to allow for a more effective cut and a proper discharge of the clippings. 2) Only mow 1/3 of the total grass length at a time - no more. For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or less of the total length of the grass. The average lawn should be approximately 1 1/2 to 2” (3.8 to 5 cm) long during cool months, and between 2" to 3 1/4" (5 cm to 8.3 cm) long during hot months. 3) Mow when the grass is dry. As this is an electric unit, mowing wet/damp grass is a safety issue. However, ensuring the grass is dry will also help the grass cut cleanly and discharge appropriately. Wet/damp grass carries more weight and will mostly stick to the blade/motor shaft and will not appropriately discharge or cut easily. 4) Make sure the battery is cool before use. When the battery will not be in use, we suggest storing it indoors, in a cool dry area - away from direct sunlight. Leave the charger unplugged and the battery disconnected from the charger unless it needs charging. 5) Only use the self-propelled feature when needed. Self-propelled mowers do use more battery than standard push mowers as more power is being demanded from the battery to run the blades and the wheels. We hope these tips will help! If not, we would be happy to investigate to see whether your run time would be considered average; please start a Live chatbot through the customer contact page located on our website: www.greenworkstools.com or contact Greenworks at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS). All we ask that you have access to the unit so that we can complete troubleshooting with you and gather necessary unit information.

I wanted a mower that was reliable and that if service was warranted it could be done locally. After reading the reviews and on a recommendation of a local dealer that would be starting to sell Greenworks I purchased this mower. I have used it once and it has exceeded my expectations. I cut a newly seeded 1/3 acre lot of thick weed stalks and it did a superb job with only one recharge. I am very happy with my decision on purchasing this mower.

I replaced my well used gas powered mower with the 80 v self propelled GreenWorks mower. I mow about 1/3 acre, and need the self propel feature less than 1/4 of the time. With the 4 amph battery purchased separately, I can finish with a battery needing a recharge. The mower is light and easy to push. With my GreenWorks blower, string trimmer, and an edger attachment, all my lawn care needs are satisfied. I would recommend this mower even if you think you don't want a battery powered mower.

More than expected of a mower

I used 80 V self propelled lawn mower past 2 springs to whack 3' tall weeds with up to 1" stalks. While it won't do that and climb uphill at the same time, there's no problem munching huge weeds while going downslope. And height adjustment allows passing over rocks up to ~3" rocks. Great tool!
