Cleans Extremely Well - I dislike the rack design
on December 17, 2025

After using the GE Dishwasher Model GDT535PYV6FS for some time, I have mixed feelings about its performance and design. On the positive side, the dishwasher does an excellent job cleaning dishes, leaving them spotless after every cycle. Although it’s rated with a standard noise level, I found it to be surprisingly quiet while running, which is great for open-concept spaces or late-night use.
I appreciate the thoughtful features like the amber light on the door panel, which indicates when the machine is running a cycle, and turns white once washing and drying are complete. This visual cue is helpful for knowing at a glance when the dishes are done. Another nice touch is the tilted glass and cup holder, which ensures water drains off the bottom, helping prevent water spots.
Features I Dislike
• The biggest drawback for me is the tilted bottoms of both the upper and lower racks. While the manual includes photos of different loading options, I still struggle to fit plates and bowls due to this design. Loading dishes was much easier with my older GE dishwasher.
• The rinse aid dispenser is another area of frustration. It uses a domed transparent bubble cap that turns opaque when full and is clear when empty or low. This design makes it difficult to judge how much rinse aid remains. My previous model had a floating bar that clearly showed levels from full to empty, which was much more intuitive.
• The included owner’s manual was only two pages and lacked any real instructions for operating the dishwasher. I had to go online to the GE website and download a 14-page PDF manual to figure out the basics. I worry that some new customers might not think to do this and could be left without essential information. The “getting started” section of the manual is also confusing. It lists 16 different options that may or may not apply to your specific model. I had to go through and check off the ones relevant to my dishwasher, which turned out to be a frustrating and time-consuming process.
Overall, while the GE GDT535PYV6FS performs well in terms of cleaning dishes, the process of loading the racks and navigating the controls takes some getting used to. If you value quiet operation and effective cleaning, this model delivers, but be prepared for a learning curve when it comes to loading dishes and using the various features.

Feels cheap, and arrived filled with water
on December 22, 2025

For some crazy reason, the dishwasher arrived with a pool of water in the basin, and the water lines were filled, so when I was moving it/installing it, water was spilling out of the cardboard box. Also, the detergent free sample had exploded all over the manual, so it wa a little messy during the install. The quality of the machine feels very cheap. The touch pad on top feels like it will crack after a couple years.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We will pass your feedback to our product teams about the quality and touchpad so they may review further.
We would like to help and provide some information. Every dishwasher is tested for leaking before being packed for shipment; therefore, the dishwasher will have a small amount of water in the tub when it reaches the home. If the product is tilted severely or turned upside down, this water may spill out.

Basic model

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a basic dishwasher. Only two racks and one silverware basket. Odd placing of the spindles for holding the dishes. Dishes come out still wet and sometimes still dirty. It is not very noisy. The cycle time is normal. This model was included with our house, but definitely miss my last washer. Also, the smell. If you do not wash often, it reeks.

We'd like to help you with the cleaning, drying and smell of your dishwasher. We recommend making sure you are using a high efficiency detergent in a tablet or packet form. Additionally, check that the inlet water temperature is at least 120°F. You can find more information on pages 19 and 20 of the owner's manual here: https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--EszXjA26--/2ee1c206fc195cd1717cedf8b41e2ab95579670c.pdf

the baskets plastic showed defects after a couple of uses. The ends and joints have hairline cracks more visible by the faint rust color.
