Defective and Horrible Directions for Assemblu
on July 13, 2022

The directions for assembling this rack are awful. Despite watching multiple YouTube videos and taking it apart twice, it still has problems with the release handle. The release handle is extremely difficult to release lever to raise and lower the rack to work after adding the extension for 2 more bikes. It is extremely easy to load bikes when assembled but on my second use, the locking system to keep the rack level for bikes broke. I had to break apart my bikes and load them in my van and use bungees to hold the rack up in order to drive. Luckily I was not on the highway at the time. I will be returning. After spending the money on this rack, I expected much more. I had a Hollywood platform rack for years. While it didn’t have all the bells and whistles, it worked without problems.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2. I understand your frustrations with the rack installation and subsequent damage. Thule manuals are designed to use few written directions to aid in translation to the over a dozen languages they are printed in. Thule customer service is available each weekday via phone for assistance if needed. https://help.thule.com/s/contactsupport?language=en_US Additionally, failure of a Thule rack through material or manufacturing defect is covered under Thule's limited lifetime warranty. An agent reached out via email to get more information and to start the warranty claims process.
Does not secure bikes. I had to buy 4 straps to secure bikes to rack. The bikes are wobbly without buying extra straps.

Hello Jill, Thank you for reaching out. I'm glad we were able to connect via email. Heavier bikes that exceed the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 weight capacity may need modifications to be within optimal carrying weight, such as removing batteries and accessories. Positioning the heavier bike closer to the vehicle, and ensuring the front wheel hook is positioned so it contacts the front fork and the tire is also important to ensure a safe carry.
This rack is one of the best I have ever used. Very user friendly and locks down the bikes safely and securely. I would highly recommend.

Bike Fell off from this expensive bike rack!

I bought this most expensive Thule T2 Pro XTR 2'' last year for the safety of ourselves and others on the rood. However, after racking 4 bikes and confirming that they were fully secure (my son checked, my nephew checked and before driving, I also checked to confirm all bikes were secure), I started driving home. On the highway, I heard some noise and looked in the rearview mirror that one bike was dragging on the road (luckily all the traffic in the back noticed earlier and decreased their speed. I pulled over the car and took these photos to share with Thule for their help.

Thank you for letting us know about the issue! I reached out via email for more information and to start the warranty process for your Thule T2 Pro XTR 2. The issue could have been caused by the positioning of the front wheel hook. From the photo, it looks like at least one is positioned on the far-forward side of the wheel. The front wheel hook is intended to connect as close as possible to the front fork. If the damaged bike was attached in a similar manner, this could have been the cause of the failure. Was cautious about buying due to bad reviews

I have never written a review before but felt completed to do so. I was very hesitant to keep this rack that my wife bought. All of the issues I read from the bad reviews are operator error. I blame Thule as well for lack of description in their instructions. The RACK SHOULD NEVER FALL OFF YOUR VEHICLE!!!! If the rack is put on correctly it will never fall off. The keys lock and unlock the knobs to tighten and loosen the knobs. Once the knobs are tighten the key is turned to keep people from stealing them or keeping them from backing off during transportation. All of the issues that people had were just inexperienced people using the product. I have had Thule racks for years and would highly resort them. Thule would never let engineering put out a product that has the issues that I have read on line. The reason I gave it four stars is because we haven't taken it on the road yet. We plane on it in 3 weeks and it will be fine from the test run in our driveway.

Front wheel lose, dragged behind car
on July 10, 2022

My brother got this for me since I have a 5 year old, and this rack would allow our different sized bikes to fit on the same rack. I have used this about 3 times without problems. However, yesterday I load my bike on, and the front wheel came off and my bike was dragged behind on the freeway (miraculously, I only seemed to lose a 1/4 of the left handle and bit of the hand break). I looked thru the instructions/manual and it doesn't say you must lock your bike to secure it as you drive. I even asked my brother to shake it once I put it on to make sure it was secure, and it didn't move. I would like Thule to contact me about this. It could have caused an accident.

Thank you for reaching out and letting us know of the problem with your bike rack. I'm sorry to hear about the damage to your bike. The best way to receive assistance with a damaged or defective product, is to fill out a Warranty Claim with photos and video best showing the issues you experienced, and a copy of the proof of purchase.
