Not nearly the quality I expected.

I have had this rack for 9 months, and the quality and Thule support have disappointed us. We use it to carry 2 fat tire ebikes, and it does not stand up to the load. The worst issue is that the front tire cradle is made of a plastic that soften enough on a hot day that the front tire was able to turn significantly to the side, causing the bike to start to lean and nearly fall off the rack. This bike has 26x4.5" tires, so it is not that the tire fit too loosely in the rack, the plastic cradle actually softened and deformed in the heat. I had to ease my way to the nearest store to find some heavy duty zip ties, in order to secure the sides of the tire cradle tightly around the front tire.
There are additional design and quality issues that make me no longer comfortable in recommending or using this rack for our ebikes.
I filled out Thule's online warranty claim form 11 days ago, and received an automated email response that, "An agent will be in touch with you shortly." Over a week later, I submitted an online support request to get a status update. I have heard nothing from Thule on either request.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello Rich,
Thank you for letting us know about the issue with your Thule T2 Pro XTR 2. I'm sorry to hear about the deformation to your front tire holder. Thule products are designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions, but prolonged exposure to extreme weather can cause damage.
Thank you for your patience with the response time. Our team is working to respond to higher-than-normal call and email volume as quickly as possible. An agent has reached out to address your concerns and your warranty claim.

Easily adjustable for Fat Bikes
on January 26, 2023

This rack was used to carry 2 carbon framed Trek hybrid bikes but recently used it to carry two carbon framed fat bikes.. at first, it seemed like the strap was not long enough to fit the fat wheel but we quickly realized the strap can be fed in up higher on the tray, effectively lengthening the strap enough to ratchet the wheel securely. Such an easy switch - in both directions, depending on which bikes we're carrying in different seasons!!

Great rack, Lousy Assembly instructions
on June 11, 2021

I received my new rack last week. I finally had time to assemble it. This rack looks like it'll be a great way to safely and securely transport our bikes. I'd give Thule five stars for this product except for the assembly instructions. Thule should be ashamed of this booklet. A pictorial of major steps? They took plenty of time to translate dozens of safety details into several languages at the back of the manual, but didn't make the effort to provide a single textual description with their drawings. For the price they charge for their gear, you'd think they could hire someone to write their manuals. Fortunately, I found a youtube video which was quite helpful. Just search for "thule xtr assembly" to find it.

Defective and Horrible Directions for Assemblu
on July 13, 2022

The directions for assembling this rack are awful. Despite watching multiple YouTube videos and taking it apart twice, it still has problems with the release handle. The release handle is extremely difficult to release lever to raise and lower the rack to work after adding the extension for 2
more bikes. It is extremely easy to load bikes when assembled but on my second use, the locking system to keep the rack level for bikes broke. I had to break apart my bikes and load them in my van and use bungees to hold the rack up in order to drive. Luckily I was not on the highway at the time. I will be returning. After spending the money on this rack, I expected much more. I had a Hollywood platform rack for years. While it didn’t have all the bells and whistles, it worked without problems.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2. I understand your frustrations with the rack installation and subsequent damage.
Thule manuals are designed to use few written directions to aid in translation to the over a dozen languages they are printed in. Thule customer service is available each weekday via phone for assistance if needed.

Additionally, failure of a Thule rack through material or manufacturing defect is covered under Thule's limited lifetime warranty. An agent reached out via email to get more information and to start the warranty claims process.

Bike Fell off from this expensive bike rack!
on June 5, 2022

I bought this most expensive Thule T2 Pro XTR 2'' last year for the safety of ourselves and others on the rood. However, after racking 4 bikes and confirming that they were fully secure (my son checked, my nephew checked and before driving, I also checked to confirm all bikes were secure), I started driving home. On the highway, I heard some noise and looked in the rearview mirror that one bike was dragging on the road (luckily all the traffic in the back noticed earlier and decreased their speed. I pulled over the car and took these photos to share with Thule for their help.

Thank you for letting us know about the issue! I reached out via email for more information and to start the warranty process for your Thule T2 Pro XTR 2.
The issue could have been caused by the positioning of the front wheel hook. From the photo, it looks like at least one is positioned on the far-forward side of the wheel. The front wheel hook is intended to connect as close as possible to the front fork. If the damaged bike was attached in a similar manner, this could have been the cause of the failure.

Wobbly bikes, expensive rack

Does not secure bikes. I had to buy 4 straps to secure bikes to rack. The bikes are wobbly without buying extra straps.

Hello Jill,
Thank you for reaching out. I'm glad we were able to connect via email. Heavier bikes that exceed the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 weight capacity may need modifications to be within optimal carrying weight, such as removing batteries and accessories. Positioning the heavier bike closer to the vehicle, and ensuring the front wheel hook is positioned so it contacts the front fork and the tire is also important to ensure a safe carry.
