Nearly perfect all-around bag

Would be perfect if the straps had more padding. Aside from that, this backpack is everything I wanted and more. Here’s a list of all of the items I packed during a day-long excursion walking in Paris: 2 13.5” laptops, 2 cameras, 1 external battery pack, 1 light sweater, a small makeup/toiletry bag, a women’s continental-style wallet, and 2 packs of wide Fuji Instax film packs. And there was still plenty of room for me to stow my iPhone max and sunglasses still in the case! Oh, and can’t forget the snacks!
How was this possible?! This backpack is built for organization! There are so many versatile pockets that allow for compartmentalization—but there are plenty of zippers angled for easy access. Unless a smaller item fell to the bottom, I didn’t need to dig items out to access what I needed. This is also extremely lightweight, which came in handy when walking 12 miles.
I have the Celina in black with gold hardware and was so happy with how stylish this extremely versatile backpack is. It felt like I was backpacking, but without the worries of my bag clashing in my photos. I am in LOVE with my TUMI!! It would be perfect though if the straps were a bit more padded, but I won’t complain.
Day 1 with my Celina, aka the Calais replacement, and I am not in love. After 6 years of heavy (mgmt. consulting) usage on the Calais, it was finally falling apart (broken zipper on the front pocket, though one still works; straps coming a little apart at the top seam). I made the difficult decision to buy a newer surely inferior version. Well, I am ready to try to figure out life support measures for the Calais and asking myself, how broken is it really?
My biggest complaint is the size of the Celina. Measurements are comparable on paper but my volume test suggests otherwise. It is too small and narrow. I cannot comfortably fit what was a “light week” for the Calais. (No way am I fitting in a waterbottle and airport change of shoes anymore.)
And worst of all- there is no excess material available for the exterior pockets. So when the main compartment is full (which mine tends to be…), you cannot comfortably reach in to find anything at all. I literally have zipper scrapes on my hands from trying to grab my AirPods out of the front shallow pocket.
I’m hoping (desperately) that it will stretch out in time. How will this ever support a two-laptop week?! Anyone know a good zipper fixer?
I was excited to get this but there are design flaws that need to be fixed. The front has three vertical zipper pulls which are confusing when you’re trying to open it blind (when it’s below your seat on a plane or even just propped on floor). Two of the zipper pulls (that open into entirely diff compartments) are super close together and you have to look carefully in order to find the correct zipper. I’ve pulled the wrong zipper at least 50% of the time and it’s always a bit annoying. I bought the gunmetal hardware on black which I think decreases the visibility of what’s what. But ultimately I think this shouldn’t have been an issue if Tumi considered user experience more closely. Another thing is the straps - on the shortest setting the backpack still sits very low and is uncomfortable because it hits my tailbone. It’s usually not too bad but if I’m carrying a laptop it becomes painful after an 30+ min.
I just got this backpack and I love it for work! As a petite woman, it's hard to find backpacks that fit my body well (everything usually looks big). This backpack is compact and looks great for my body type. It also has great pockets and the materials seems very durable. It looks like (hopefully) it will look great over many years!
