best alternative to gas or charcoal

Can't have gas or charcoal due to insurance policies where I live. Really bummed I had to sell my trusty old Weber gas grill. But the Lumin electric grill has been very good. I'm very happy with the purchase and have several friends in my neighborhood who also have the Lumin grill and are just extremely happy with it as well.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A Welcome Addition To Our Grilling Fleet

We grill, we grill a lot! We have gas, wood, charcoal, a Jenn-Air indoors and now electric in the screened-in porch. This Lumin grill was a Valentines gift to my wife.
We are getting ready to do a major pool build and outdoor remodel and this grill is just what we wanted in the screened-in porch in the meantime to replace an old Shepard gas drill.
The grill can get really hot (600+) for those strip steaks and it can also remain just warm to reheat/steam/smoke food. It really packs a punch that we've not seen from other cheap electric grills, and even more expensive electric grills.
The grill is lightweight and very easy to keep clean. I can easily see us throwing this grill in the back of the truck and plugging it into the bed for great tailgates and meals in the woods.
Weber has always been good to us and this Lumin Electric Grill has been no exception. Highly recommended!!!

Sub-optimal performance

Weber Lumin advertises that its temperature reaches up to 600F. I’ve used my grill over 25 times including three with a replacement temperature controller. My grill consistently underperforms. It takes ~30 minutes to pre-heat to 500F and never goes above this baseline temp (even with additional pre-heating time). Once the grill is momentarily opened and then quickly closed (to initially place food or turn it), the temperature drops precipitously 100 degrees or more and never returns to the preheat baseline. While this might be okay for foods cooked at lower temps for longer periods of time, it doesn’t enable high temperature sears. The primary reason I purchased the grill was for the advertised high sear feature and unfortunately it’s not lived up to the hype. On the plus side, the grill is extremely well constructed and offers multiple modes for cooking (steaming, smoking) but I’ve not used these features yet.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. We are surprised to learn that your Lumin is not getting above 500F. That is not the normal high temperature that we expect, and our Care team is here to help with your issue.

Please look for the email outreach we sent earlier. Thank you!

The Lumin electric grill does a great job! Much better results than I expected. I really like grilling on one side and steaming on the other.

Perfect, But Not

This is the perfect-sized grill for the two of us and our small outdoor space. It seems to be well-made and is sleek and attractive. The coated grill grates are easy to clean. We have not tried the smoking feature yet, but the steamer tray makes it easy to cook an entire meal at the same time on the grill. Determining how long to grill meat has been a significant challenge for me. We like our red meat very rare. On a traditional grill, the initial test has been a sight test. The greatest disadvantage of this grill is that if you open the lid for even 10 seconds, the temperature drops by at least 200 degrees and takes a long time to heat back up. This makes it difficult to cook red meat to the preferred doneness. Also, I'd like a guide to tell me how long to cook specific meats, veggies, etc. So far I haven't found that.

Having used a gas grill for over 40 years, I was very, very pleased to see how great the results were using Webber's Lumin Electric Grill. While the time it takes to cook might be slightly longer than using gas, I have found that the food looks and tastes exactly the same. Could not be more happy with the results

Overall I really like this grill. It is very easy to clean, as drippings don't stick well to the stainless inards of the grill. However, the temps are awfully hot. I followed the directions (sort of) for my first grilling test. The meat was really, really well done. So I have been putting on the meat well the temp reads at about 150, and cooking it about half as long as on a propane grill. If anyone has any suggestions on how to turn down the heat ...
