It's an okay product but even on its lowest setting it is far too bright to use in a room where you are trying to sleep. I have to point it away from me when I'm trying to sleep. It would be nice if like the other acurite products you can tell it to sleep and completely shut off the backlight, with a button to wake it up. Is there any quick fix that I can perform to the device? I'm not afraid of opening it up and soldering if you have any configurable resistor values for the backlight. I'm also not afraid of firmware flashing if it is fixable via software.

To disable the backlight, please press and hold the backlight button for 5 seconds. Pressing any button will re-enable the backlight. Nice idea for a Valet but auto dimming only goes down so much. Not able to use in bedroom. Would rather have something go to no light then a tap or top button push illuminates for a couple seconds then resumes its past setting.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
