Ultrasensitive touch pad

Gorgeous laptop, good specs, super light...but the haptic touchpad rendered it unusable. It is so sensitive that the slightest glide with minimal to zero pressure will register as a click. This is after turning it to the lowest sensitivity possible in Win11 settings and hours searching for new haptic touchpad drivers that can turn the sensitivity even lower than the window's setting (wasn't able to find any). Simple tasks like browsing between Chrome tabs became so aggravating that I had to return this beautiful laptop. I'd steer away from this one or any laptop with this type of touchpad unless you have delicate fingers that has the gentle touch of a feather, or plan on using it with a mouse.

Thin, light, great display

Just got my Gram Style 14" today and wow, compared to my old 14" Alienware this machine is sleek and beautiful. The iridescent glass is a fun touch, but I bought it for the OLED screen not the glass. This thing weighs 1/2 as much as my Alienware. My kitchen scale clocks it in at 980g (2lb 2.6oz). And thank goodness for USB-C charging! Setup was easy, well as easy as it gets for Win11. Build quality seems great. I don't see any flex on in the main body (see OLED screen below). The top side of the lid is pretty slippery but the texture of the bottom ensures I have a good grip. The lid can collect fingerprints, they aren't too noticeable unless you catch the light just right. Instructions say a clean microfiber cloth dampened with lukewarm water should do the trick to clean them up.
Early impressions are it is much cooler than my old computer and the fan is much, much quieter. The old laptop could barely be called a "lap”top because it ran close to 60C before the fans would kick on. At the "normal" setting on the Gram Style I can hardly hear the fans. I have maxed out the CPU once but running at 30% it was what I would consider pretty standard. Sure, when I bump them up to High there is a more high-pitch spin-up than I'm used to, but small fans are gonna be loud. Running Cinebench R23 and the fan is noticeable but nothing compared to my old laptop or even my work laptop which starts with a D and end in ELL. Finished with a score of 7139 (multi-core). Fans spun back down to idle fairly quickly after finishing the test.
The invisible trackpad is not a problem at all. If you know where the spacebar is, you know where the trackpad is. I have never once 'missed' where it was. The glow of the outline is nice but for me not needed.
Battery life is worlds better than the 2-4hrs (now actually only 1hr) on my previous laptop, I haven't run it fully down to 0 yet but I was getting 18hr predicted time while watching Netflix on it (not at minimum brightness either). Running Windows Update it dropped to 9hr with the CPU usage but then rebounded when the installs finished.
Oh and back to the display...wow I'm using it outside right now with partly cloudy skies and have no problem seeing anything even at 50% brightness. The anti-reflective coating is working wonderfully; I only see a hint at myself in the reflection. My previous laptop had a glossy, fingerprint magnet, screen that even at full brightness was nearly impossible to see outside unless you found just the right amount of shade. The screen is a little flexible...if you grab it by the corners and try to twist it, but one handed operation there is no flex. The hinges are the right amount of stiff. No issues with single-handed opening of the screen when lifting from the middle.
The keyboard is tactile for being so thin. The keys feel stiffer than my previous laptop but it's easy to type on, though they are just standard flat-topped keys.
Next the speakers. When I was setting this laptop up, I kept thinking the sound was coming from above the computer, maybe it was how I was holding it; it wasn't sitting flat on my lap but I was already impressed that they could project so well. I've played some music through it since setting it up and the sound is good. It's got good presence for sure. They aren't going to blow you away with bass but are good for general listening and Netflix.
Now a few 'flaws'. Not deal breakers, obviously since I bought this one.
1. No HDMI port even though the standard 2023 Gram 14 has it.
2. Only 1 USB-A sized port, again the standard 2023 Gram 14 has 2.
3. The USB-A port also has a little 1/2 flap thing that moves down to let you plug in the device. Time will tell if that flap holds up to normal use.
4. The glass deck for the trackpad is really slippery when typing, it just feels off to my hands. I'll probably get used to it though.
5. I do wish the USB-C ports were split on both sides that way I can charge from either side.
6. This is really just a nit: the power button is right where I'm used to the del key being. I haven't pushed it yet but have definitely rested my finger on it as I wonder why the "key" feels different than the others.

So, all in all, I don't know if the 0.03" thickness difference between the Gram and Gram Style is really worth fewer ports and the little flap? One aside...what is the little rhino cardboard thing that comes in the packaging? Looks like a stand for maybe a business-card sized object. I must be missing something. I'll come back and update this review as I get more time with it.

good but with issues

I was excited to get my first LG gram laptop. Got a bunch of issues right away.
1. The laptop is super light indeed; however, the metal doesn't feel like metal, more like plastic feeling, but I can get over with it.
2. I started the setup, then the windows update got stuck in the middle, I had to press the power button to kill it, I can't blame that all on LG, right?
3. I noticed the fan noise was huge, I thought it was doing the busy work to install and index, so it should be ok later, NO. as long as I plugin the power cord, the fan is loud, even with nothing going on in the task manager, if I unplug the power cord, then the fan noise come down, what's going on? then later, I noticed the LG smart assistant can set the fan to "low", ok, I set it to low, then it warns me of the potential performance issue. Hmmm, shouldn't LG automatically adjust the FAN speed? I have to manually set it?

I am not very sure if I will keep this laptop, the FAN or the heat may be the biggest issue. way to loud. If LG can offer me a discount, I may think about keeping it.

The screen quality is good, but it makes my eyes uncomfortable when I use it for daily work, and I also need a touch screen.
The laptop makes a lot of noise when I open many web pages and charge it at the same time. It’s very noisy.
The laptop looks nice, but it attracts fingerprints and grease, making the surface look blotchy.

It's absolutely stunning design and very light for specifications. The OLED display is very bright and vibrant. It also supports HDR content. This specific model got 32 GB RAM and 1TB HDD that's more than sufficient for most people. I have been using it to write code and edit photos and videos, It performs very well for all my needs. The Two Thunderbolt Ports can transfer lot of data and can be extended to connect lot of devices using a Hub. It also came with 72WH Lithium Battery that helped to use the Laptop for longer hours without a need to be connected power outlet. The Sound coming Laptop speakers are awesome and It's Dolby Atmos. I have been using it for work meetings, The Web cam quality is great and no body complained about the Sound quality after I started using this Laptop. The 65W Charger came with the laptop charges the Laptop quickly. Enjoying this powerful laptop and it's portability.

I was immediately surprised with how lightweight the LG laptop is as compared with my previously owned laptops and tablets. After carrying it around for a few days, It quickly became my preferred laptop for traveling. The 14" version is so light that at moments I forgot there was a laptop in my bag, even with a power cord and charging block.
Though it is a very lightweight laptop, the LG Gram is fast and powerful, and can handle multiple applications. With 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, I can easily use all of my PDF rendering programs simultaneously with my standard data spreadsheet applications without any delay or lag. Also the camera handles facial recognition very well, and it can quickly unlock my laptop when enabled.
And I typically don't care much about how my laptops look, but I received many compliments from others on how stylish the LG Gram laptop is. Not that it would matter, but I was pleased to display it in public. The LG Gram 14" is worth every penny, especially if you are traveler.
