Decent standalone, but description is misleading..

I bought this online only to find out that the North American version doesn't have Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. For some reason, Bestbuy and other online retailers are showing that it does...this is the European version, and they just copy/pasted the description.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Traffic functionality not worth it

GPS works okay but traffic function not worth the extra $20. Zero traffic information driving through multiple US and Ontario cities.
Maps as of March 2024 update:
Accurate red light cameras in Florida but spotty in Ontario. Mis-identifies some street names in Ontario. Streets have been around for years and properly identified by Google, Apple and other GPS providers.

It works okay to get from A to B, and price is reasonable. However the traffic and map issues will not be limited to this model. Consider a Garmin alternative if that matters to you.

Missing features

Unlike the Drive 52, the 53 does not show saved locations on the map unless you plot a route to it. The Drive 52 showed saved locations as you drove near them. The 53 software needs work! I returned it to the store and found a Drive 52.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Worth skipping this model

Garmin's Drive 53 is little more than a stripped down version of the older discontinued Drive 52. The Drive 53 may have new menu screens and some new logos, unfortunately that's where the honeymoon ends. Garmin's device falls short on performance and user customization. The Drive 53 no longer displays your saved locations on the map unless you have a course plotted to one of them. I would skip this version of the Drive series and wait for either a software patch to fix this major issue, or look elsewhere either a smartphone app or competing company, and for those who want to stay with Garmin you're in luck, there are still Drive 52 models available, but they're going fast.
