Great buy

I'll say this much you get what you pay for. The purifier is dynamic with the 'Auto' function and the fact that the ionizer doesn't produce ozone is key when having that add-on for a air purifier. My girlfriend is allergic to my Bernese Mountain Dog and she's been fairing very well since having the purifier. The purifier runs quit so reviews about noise I think are exaggerated. Overall the purifier is a great supplement to help mitigate allergies, dust, and you can't beat the limited lifetime warranty.

Amazing

We have 3 cats. We purchased the BreathSmart system for friends and family member who suffer from many alergies, including cats. Our friends spent 3 1/2 hours at our house, unmedicated, to test out the system. They had absolutely not problems at all. I have to admit we were not confident it would allow them to be symptom free. It was a wise investment. Not only were they comfortable but our house was dust free.

This air filter looks good, works well, and sounds nice. Many alternatives don't do at least one of the 3. We run ours a full speed and find the sound it makes to be very pleasing - kind of like a good white noise generator.

Have only had these running for a couple hours and I can already breathe easier. I bought 3 breathe smart purifiers to cover my 2200 sf house (I have asthma) and I can already tell a difference in the air. All were red when we turned them on (!) and are slowly moving to better air. But, I can breathe better already. Can't believe it!

Review of the FIT50
on November 30, 2016
Posted by: Charles F.
I received my Breathe Smart Fit50 Thursday November 17,2016. I was in the middle of my weekly thorough house cleaning. So since it arrived, I decided to do my monthly super thorough house cleaning. That's where I vacuum the house down from ceiling to floor with my Dyson's. I scrub, mop and rinse the tile floors, vacuum down drapes, move furniture and vacuum under it and vacuum off the furniture. Everything is scrubbed and sanitized to hospital standards. I wanted to do this first before I took the Fit50 out of the box. I also wanted to put the Alen Fit50 to a real but fair test of removing dust from the air. That's my pet peeve...dust. I don't like daily dusting using Swiffer dusters but they do collect and hold the dust. I also use high end 3M furnace filters which I change out every 3 months even though the instruction sheet states they are good for 6 months. My heating and central cooling system is a year old and so is all of the ductwork. You would think that my house would be dust free with all of that, but it still comes in from somewhere. And I never open my windows except to clean them every Spring and Fall. But still every morning I have to dust off all of my furniture and do a general vacuuming. So the next morning Friday I took the Fit50 out of the box. I read all of the instructions and even watched the videos the Alen company emailed me on the proper placement of your new Fit50. I did my daily dusting and vacuuming. I then set up the Fit50 and turned it on and set the settings to "auto". I turned on the ionizer to because I do like the way an ionizer gives the air a fresh crisp smell. Within a few minutes it went from speed 2 up to speed 4. The colored indicator was a bright red color. I was surprised since my house was spotless. So I went and made myself a cup of coffee and set completely across the room from the air purifier. I started timing the thing. In 38 minutes it turned itself down to speed 3. I started reading while I was waiting. An hour and 47 minutes later it turns itself down to speed 2 and the red light changes to a pale pink color. I got tired of waiting so I left the house. I came home 5 hours later and it was still on speed 2 and the light was pink. And I noticed that there was no nice crisp ionizer smell when I came into the house. I was extremely disappointed. It ran on speed 2 with the pink light on for the rest of the evening. I went to bed at 11:30.
The next morning when I got up I immediately walked into the living room which is 16'x20' and is open to a wide hallway on one side of the living room, and on the other side of the LR. it opens to a wide doorway to the kitchen. The indicator light was blue and the fan was running on speed 1, it's lowest. But within 3 or 4 minutes after I walked through the LR into the kitchen and back, it clicked and bumped up to speed 2 and the light turned pink again. The dust sensor apparently is extremely sensitive. But still no nice crisp ionizer smell which I was hoping for. But I did the clean white glove test and to my surprise there wasn't any dust that I could see with the naked eye. I was thrilled about that. I didn't dust or vacuum that morning as usual. I watched very closely. It was the 4th day Monday after starting up the purifier that I could lightly see dust on my dark colored furniture. So I have to say that it is doing it's job. It's an attractive machine and the colored panel that I chose blends well with my furniture. It's surprising quiet even on the highest speed. My only complaint and the reason for a 4 star rating is that the ionizer is useless. There is no difference in the smell of the air with it on or off. So I have to use my Eden Pure Gen-7 air purifier in the kitchen that has a 4 setting ionizer with 2 brushes, a large UV bulb, and a small Anion generator purification plate that moves the air with a small fan to freshen and give the air in the entire house that crisp after a thunderstorm smell. But the Eden Pure Gen-7 is very small. But with them both working together running 24/7 my house now is almost completely dust free and the air smells crisp to. I hope in the very near future that the Alen Company makes it's ionizer more powerful where one can really feel and smell the difference. The customer can choose if they want to use that feature or not just like Eden Pure did. Overall the Fit 50 is a little over priced, and you shouldn't have to pay extra for choosing a colored front panel. But it is a well made air cleaner and it is attractive and quiet. They just need to increase the power of the ionizer because they do use the two brush system just like Eden Pure does. And they need to include a good sized UV bulb for sanitation. I'll probably keep it.

Thank you for the excellent and very thorough review. Regarding your comment about the FIT50 ionizer not being as effective as your Eden Pure unit. Eden Pure products are powerful ozone generators. Ozone creates a fresh crisp scent in the air that many people find enjoyable. However, because Ozone is a powerful oxidant (it reacts with everything) it can be very irritating to peoples eyes, nose, lungs and skin. For this reason, Ozone generators cannot be sold as air purifiers in California due to the California Air Resources Board Ozone Safety Regulations. The FIT50 ionizer produces no ozone. So while it is effective at removing odors, it will not be able to compete with an ozone generator in producing that crisp ozone scent.

Nice unit for large space

I bought a BreatheSmart air purifier with HEPA-silver filter for my full basement because the air in the basement seemed a bit stale due to lack of fresh air circulation. Within 24 hours of installing the BreatheSmart the air in my basement was noticeably fresher and probably much healthier.
