I love how this light tries to be everything for every job, it is well-built and it does a fairly good job at it. The lights are clean, even and powerful, free of artifacts. I haven't tested its solar recharging capabilities nor it's waterproofing. I use it as a task light in my garage which doesn't have electrical outlets. Two drawbacks, however: 1) It is not very ergonomic at all, with its odd shape, and 2) Its battery life is pretty disappointing. I charge it straight from my Yeti 500X and it drains a fair bit of it only to last a few hours and die.

Plastic casing degraded over time

Bought this a while back for emergence use, when I finally needed it the plastic casing got degraded to the point where it got very sticky right out of the box. Very disappointed with Goal Zero expected that they built a better product, nope that was the case here. By the time I took it out of the box warrant was already expired. So definitely not a buy if you planning to keep it long-term and use it for the emergence. If not for the degradation of the plastic case I would highly recommend it. Love all the features and brightness.

Solar flashlight

Bought a few years ago, worked ok at first but case got very sticky, on/off switch started jamming, and completely died after a couple years. Not very energy efficient if it doesn't have a decent lifespan and you have to throw it out after a couple years!
Battery lasts a long time on a full charge. Have given many away as gifts to family. Everyone loves them.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Disappointed in the Torch 500

I have several other Goal Zero Lights that I absolutely love. The Torch 500 is the exception. I've owned two of them for about three years, one of which was never opened until the date of this review. The other was used maybe twice, and I still kept it in its original packing. In prep for what has become an annual winter storm and seeming longer and more frequent power outages I tested and charged all my lights. While mine are not sticky, the buttons on both units don't work. Subsequently, neither unit will operate at all. Do not recommend!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good light but battery indicator broken

I really like this flashlight a lot, but I have 2, and both have the same problem. The battery indicator light always shows 4 dots indicating full charge regardless of how much charge is actually left. Only if I plug it into charge will it then reveal what its true remaining capacity is which is a real drag. Otherwise it’s a great camping light or something to have for blackouts. I really appreciate the color temp. Many cheap lights are a cool white but goal zero took the extra care to make it a nice warm white.
Not like the old model. Need cord to find cord to charge Buttons small and hard to push. Not easy to hold. But light is brighter.

Sticky outer surface

I bought this a few years back to have on hand for an emergency. We are preparing for an emergency & I can barely touch the outer surface it is so sticky. The stickiness leeches off onto my hands & tough to even wash off. Great concept but needs a different exterior compound content.
