[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an impressive machine but it falls short in certain aspects. The one I bought is the one with a 2k display, RTX A4500, i7-12850HX, 32GB RAM.
Let's get the positives out of the way:
- It's very fast. Intel 12th Gen is superb. You might worry about battery life but with the correct power plan options, screen brightness, etc., you can get 7 hours of light usage.
- The 2k display is superb, by the way. But, really needs to be 120Hz+.
- Speakers are actually great! I use the Music - Warm setting in Dolby Access. Excellent. Needs a bit more bass but I can still feel the bass compared to the P17 Gen 2.
- It's a very solid laptop. - Camera is sharp. - Fingerprint sensor works instantly.
- Cooling is pretty good and is almost like a Legion 7i. I ran some games and let them run for an hour to check the heat level. Some reach 100c in the p-cores of the CPU (82c in GPU). Others reach 84c in p-cores. Repasting with a higher quality paste would definitely help but I haven't done so. I haven't experiencing any throttling so far.
- The RTX A4500 is pretty much like an RTX 3070 Ti in most cases. It runs at 130W max with Dynamic Boost 2.0, and has better or similar FPS in games than my RTX 3070 Legion 7i laptop, in most cases.
- Runs pretty quiet.
What's missing and what's not that good:
- As you know, the Ethernet port. They need to bring it back and never remove it for Gen 2. Never remove important ports. Never reduce the amount of ports. We hate that as laptop users.
- The keyboard. I do not really like it. It's so hard to type on. Requires too much pressure and the actuation is stiff/hard. Not soft so you can't type too fast and "glide" while typing. It's exactly like the Legion 5/7 Gen 7 keyboards. Travel is 1.5mm. That's really not that good. Keys need to be at 1.8mm minimum. Lots of other companies are launching laptops with 1.8 and 2.0 and 2.5 mm keys while Lenovo keeps reducing.
- While the display is great, it needs a 120Hz+ version. Enough with the 60Hz on laptops and monitors. I am not a fan of 60Hz laptop screens as I have been using 144, 165, 240, and 300 hertz screens. To be honest, 120Hz is enough. And, when unplugging, the laptop goes to 60Hz to save on battery life. Simple solution that many laptops use. Apart from that, the display has deep blacks, great contrast, great colour accuracy. The 2k display lacks HDR though.
- We really need a P17 version. Meaning, 17" 16:10 ratio. I don't want small 16" laptops for work. Lots of us want 17" laptops from Lenovo that are full-powered like this one :).
- It needs the Legion FN+Q modes to switch between Quiet, Balanced, Performance modes on the fly.
- It lacks 2 side vents. Now, the positive is less noise and soothing fans. But, it also means less airflow, more heat. Luckily, the P16 has good cooling but not the best.
Apart from the above, this laptop is superb. Gen 2 should have the improvements mentioned above and it will be even better.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Powerful machine and a 16” vs 15” screen is a nice bonus. Quality of the display is a huge improvement from their previous models.

I would recommend this to a friend!
