It's really easy to do with the step-by-step walk-through. One must check that all expenses are actually entered via that walk-through.

TurboTax makes it easy (for the most part)

TurboTax leads me through the trials of tax trauma in an easy step-by-step format. It is the best tax filing package I have found. One drawback is a lack of explanation for lesser used forms (in my case the Georgia State Form IT-FC - Film Credit). However, when I called customer support, I got the help I needed, so all is well. It would be better if there was more explanation, particularly wherein the form is said to be required, but it doesn't apply to the return being filed.

It was good for the most part, but when I and a live Intuit Tax Professional tried to figure out where to put in foreign taxes paid we both could not solve the problem.

Pretty good, but needs better support

Product was great overall. Just a few downsides, if you want to use bonus depreciation or have commercial subleases you don't own, it can get really confusing. Filing section was quick and easy. Errors on the balance sheets not balancing could use better sign posts for tracking down the issues or incorrect entries.

Program Won't Allow Attaching 1099

The form instructions state that the 1099 is required to be attached to the 1041 return when a summary entry is used for investment transactions, but the program does not allow anything to be attached except for Form 8453-FE. The work around I used was to merge the 1099 with the Form 8453-FE outside of TurboTax and then attach the merged file as the Form 8453-FE.
The Business version (which is required for Trust 1041 returns) does not allow importing 1099's from a Brokerage. Every Trust probably has Brokerage transactions. The personal version has the function but not the higher priced Business version. Stupid.

It should not be so overwhelmingly complicated to do taxes; but it is. And TurboTax makes it a milliion times easier. Thank you.
Please fix the issue in TT for S corp/Business; it requires Schedule 502A for Virginia, even though I don't have to use it. I google the soluation every year and then i remember that i have to go into Forms view and delete the form manually. Otherwise, can't submit.
I also think the review section where it shows the forms and stuff that is missing or wrong is in red....make the highlights brighter and more visible or snap to them; otherwise i never know if i am just supposed to reivew some form that i don't understand, or is there actually something wrong...and sometimes it takes a while to figure out that some tiny box is not checked and is marked red. Thanks. A little clunky at times with having to switch back and forth and then go all the way through a bunch of steps to get to the step i actually need to view.

In general, the turbo tax products are not designed to do a tax return when the preparer knows what they are doing. I have used TurboTax for several years since I retired and don't have access to professional tax software. However, the 2022 tax returns are the last I will prepare with these products.
