Serious deficiencies for Georgia partnerships
on February 7, 2023
Posted by: Plant Man
Turbo tax has some serious software deficiencies.
First when filing a Georgia Partnership return you cannot file electronically unless your fill out a form that has to do with movie partnerships. This is ridiculous. Most partnership have nothing to do with movie production. At this point you have already paid to file Georgia Tax electronically, so you have to print out your forms and mail them in. So you cannot electronically file a Partnership Georgia forms unless you are a movie making organization.
Second, when you go to produce K-1 forms for each partnership they only let you save them on your desktop. The dialog gives you no place to save these forms except the desktop directory you cannot move to another directory. Did a high school programmer write this user interface.
Third the Asset & Liabilities balance work sheet is a joke. Instead of letting the user itemize their assets to sum up. You can only put in a balance so you can verify what assets are summed up in that one number.

Turbo Tax Need Some Tweeking

The program is ok but there are some glitches. The program adds forms to the return that are not needed and will not let you proceed until you figure them out.

Pretty awful experience

Seems to work okay for most things, still can't file state return because it just throws me in a loop. Also terrible for showing what products need to be bought.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

First time using TT for a trust return
on February 8, 2023

Generally a pretty good experience!
Opportunities for improvement:
1. Cost -- pretty pricey since I just needed the Trust part vs. the whole Business package.
2. I e-filed early because I knew I had a big payment above my estimated payments. I was hoping to avoid some penalty and interest cost by filing early, but the TT instructions said "pay by April 18" so I guess my penalties and interest are calculated on that basis, and not on the basis of when I planned to pay (early Feb.) Could TT not ask for a planned payment date and do the P&I calcs based on that?
3. TT calculated my 2023 Estimated payments based on 2022 income, but I don't expect anything near that much income in 2023. How about giving an option to over-ride the default and specify the expected income, and then do the Estimated Payment calcs based on that?
4. I live in Va. TT menus implied that I would have to file a VA trust return, but none is required for my trust. Under Va law trust returns are required for trusts for which the GRANTOR is a Va resident, regardless of the residence of theTRUSTEE. It seems TT could ask one screening question and then offer to prepare a Va State return only if the trust grantor was a VA resident.
Thanks!
Pros: I bought or sold investments
