Not sure where to begin on this one

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ok so this is an outdoor electric grill, I'm guessing for people living in apartments or condos where a gas grill is not allowed. So lets start with this - it is not a gas grill replacement - if you are going into this with that thought you will be disappointed. First this takes forever to heat up to sear level (700 degrees) - it takes about 30-45 minutes to get to that level and as soon as you open the lid the temperature drops - fast. Its like the heating element can't keep up. It wasn't cold either as we are in Texas - it was about 85 at the time. Due to how fast the heat drops, you can't get a great sear on anything either. We have tried chicken, steak and burgers, all of which weren't really seared to any level. Maybe mine was defective - don't know.
Next the cleaning - I have never scrubbed something this long for it to not come clean. I mean it is not clean at all. And this was after one cook and it was sprayed with oil beforehand. It has a cleaning mode, like an oven, but it doesnt really get hot enough to do anything to the grill plates.
So if you had no other option - this would be a good option assuming the limitations. If you can get a gas grill - thats a lot better option in my opinion.
On the plus side the installation was super easy as they use the bilt app.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not often do you have the experience of spending four-hundred something dollars on a product, hating it for the first few weeks, then finally figuring out how it works, and loving it thereafter. That is my story with the Char Broil Edge electric BBQ. When the propane gas tank on our old BBQ ran out of gas, I decided that I no longer wanted to tote the empty tank into a nearby box store for replacement. Instead, I got rid of the old BBQ, propane tank and all, and ordered the Char Broil Edge electric, hoping for the best. Soon, two large, heavy boxes arrived from Char Broil. Using the suggested app, I successfully assembled the new BBQ, not without significant grunting and sweat. Finally, it was time to cook. I checked out a couple of videos online but neither really made clear how cooking with electric was different from cooking with gas flames. So, I just used my time-tested techniques, in terms of cooking time, and temperature control. My first two attempts were disasters. The food ended up undercooked and unsatisfying. I felt disappointed. Had I wasted my money? Would I have to laboriously take apart, box up, and return the Edge? No. I persevered, did some research, called the company, and learned from my mistakes. With the Edge, you need to be patient, give everything more cooking time, avoid frequently adjusting the temperature knob or lifting up the hood to check on things. Basically, just stop meddling and let the Edge do the work. The differences were extraordinary. Juicier vegetables, softer potatoes, crispier buns! Everything was turning out BETTER than when I was cooking with gas. And to top it all off, cooking with the Edge is emission-free. Yay! Very nice not to have fumes and smoke in your face. So, although it took a little time, I eventually fell in love with the Edge. If you give it a chance, I think you will, too!

A Fantastic Electric Grill!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My wife and I were tired of using a charcoal or propane grill. The charcoal grill was too messy, and we hated replacing the propane in the gas grill. This electric grill ended up being the perfect solution. The quality of the grill is excellent. You can tell it is well made and a sturdy unit. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the grill heats up and cooks the food. You can set the temperature high, and it maintains a steady heat while cooking. The grill is easy to clean and is better than any propane or charcoal grill I owned previously.

Can't do everything, but can do a lot!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first experience with an electric grill and I didn't know what to expect. To start off with, assembly was very straightforward. It came with it's own screwdriver, and it actually worked out better than my powered driver. Once I got it assembled and ready to go though, I ran into the biggest con of this grill: It is very, very, very slow to preheat. Setting it at or near it's max temp of 500 degrees, I waited a half hour. However once it hit that temp, using it was a breeze. As you can tell from my photos, the first thing I threw at it was steak and garlic bread and they both came out AMAZING. Since then I've tried brats, chicken breasts and burgers and they've come out with varying degrees of success. Anything that really could use a little char on it doesn't come out as good, like the brats. But especially the chicken breasts and the steak were absolutely delicious.
Because of that super slow heat up time, I can't use this for last minute meals like I could a propane grill. Ironically it's more like setting up a charcoal grill in terms of time, only with far less fuss. I won't be retiring my propane grill any time soon, but I love having the option to go either way. Definitely recommended.

Fantastic grill. Like most start at high to sear then reduce or use indirect until internal meat temperature is met. My advice would be to use a meat thermometer otherwise you will be guessing. I would also recommend possibly one that monitors ambient temperature since the grill temp will not be accurate once you open and remove items such as vegetables that you may cook before putting on the meat. Without getting back up to temperature before putting the meat on, you won't sear in the flavors as well.

Been using it now about a week. Very impressive results. Many would comment that you can't get the grilled flavor out of an electric grill. As someone who had to abandon LPG grills and charcoal due to severe back and joint-related issues, I'd say "baloney" (something I've never liked). First night, the swordfish, second night yellow tail, followed by pork and chicken. All were superb! Taking a little time to adjust to using grill temperature as opposed to flame, but I'm not worried.

So far we've been very pleased - the things we've grilled have been remarkably comparable to our previous gas grill (in the few weeks we've had it, we've grilled chicken, pork chops, and burgers). The build quality seems excellent and the packaging and instructions for assembly were very good. We're still fine-tuning which temperatures to use for different things, but that was an expected part of the learning curve. Additionally, the preheat times are very reasonable; and the clean function seems to work well (and will be something we really appreciate). So, at this point we're very pleased with the purchase.
