Because it does not stay tightly fitting on the mattress. It moves and can highly likely come undone from the mattress quite easily in just under 2-3 days of normal night time activities unlike the sheet cover I had to get to put also on top to hold it in place. other than that it does seem to protect the mattress form spills BUT if only it actually hugged the mattress like it should it would be prefect.
