not for anything that requires high temp

This was a replacement for an older version from 2011, This one is ok for regular cooking, but does not heat nearly as well as the previous version.
High temp is not the same I do alot of candy making and there are some items that i can make as it does not get hot enough,

PROS and CONS Model PEP7036DTBB

Bought this to replace an older version (bought in 2004) which finally had a main board meltdown. Overall, I am happy with this new unit and feel it performs/cooks very well.
THE PROS: The diameter of the 2 biggest burners has been increased, which I think is a big improvement since it better fits my Calphalon cookware an 12" fry pans. I also like the power boil feature on two of the burners. The touch controls are intuitive and easy to use.
THE CONS: Compared to my older model, the length of the bridge burners has been shortened, although it still gives satisfactory performance. While both tops are perfectly smooth, the older model had a subtle speckled coloring (although giving an overall black appearance) while this newer model is predominantly solid black with VERY subtle diagonal lines overall - the upshot is that the newer top doesn't hide light grease reside or tiny water spots nearly as well. But my biggest complaint is that the chime sound of the controls - and most importantly for the timer - are so low that they can barely be heard!!! If I have any other sounds around me, let alone my exhaust fan running, it is IMPOSSIBLE to hear them sound. The cooktop does have some programmable settings -and the timer tone is one of them - but the choices are on "high" and "low" and my observations are about the HIGH setting (as the LOW is barely audible). A cooktop timer is a great feature - if you can hear it! Sadly, the one on this unit is all but useless.
Apart from the poor performance of the timer chime, and the extra effort it takes to keep this top looking gleaming and spotless, I am very happy with this cooktop.

Some great features, some usage challenges

Very slick-looking cooktop but also challenging to clean. (We are getting better at the right techniques, however.) Transitioning from gas to electric is also challenging - having to adjust cooking methods to slower responses on this cooktop to both heating and cooling. The flexibility in heating ring sizes is great, as is the ease of adjusting desired heat levels.
I would recommend this to a friend!
