Brand New Induction Cooktop Makes Cooking Fun Agai
on March 29, 2023

This is a first-day review. I am coming from years of gas cooking, followed by a year of a 30" electric cooktop with four knobs on the right, meaning the actual cooking space was about 24" - too small for two large pots to coexist.. Nothing wrong with plain electric, but that slow warmup and cool down, and inability to make responsive real-time adjustments, takes the fun out of cooking for me. So we now have induction, and from.my first efforts, I feel as if it is a lot like gas, without all the issues associated with gas! Since all controls are flat and in front, the burners have the full 30" and it seems so much bigger! I love the ability to modulate heat like a gas burner, and the displays are very clear about how high you have set them. You get the picture at a glance. It turns out that only one pot needs replacing... so much for the people who say you have to replace everything. My stainless pots and even good-quality nonstick frypan are all good. So I am starting a new era of cooking and I think I will enjoy it a lot!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Disappointing

Good power and responsiveness but poorly laid out for the cooking that I do. There is only one large cooking coil (burner?). I had expected to be able to use two of the smaller ones ganged together for a second large pot, but that is really finicky, required perfect placement of the pot and generally making a lot of noise. If you don't get the pot in exactly the right place, the burners turn off. When cooking pasta and sauce, for example, I end up using an Instapot for the sauce because trying to use the two smaller burners is so frustrating. Burners will turn off if water spatters on the controls. My teenagers often hear a high pitched hum, which drives them from the kitchen. I usually can't hear it, so maybe that's a feature? And the cooktop scratches really easily.

Optimistic about new installation

Easily became a part of our cooking experience. We moved from Electric to Radiant and are sad about our existing cookware that doesn’t work anymore :(, However, watching water boil in no time is well worth the switch. It’s early days but this is looking promising. Let’s see how long this one lasts.

Older GE cooktop much better designed
on December 20, 2023

We got our first induction cooktop in 2011 and LOVED it. It was a GE, as well. We had to replace our oven which is the only reason we decided to replace the cooktop at the same time. This new GE cooktop is not nearly as wonderful as the old one. The burners are smaller and the 2 burners on the left are physically much closer together. It means you can't have a 3 or 4 quart pot on one of those burners and a mid sized skillet or dutch oven on the other burner, even if the bottom of the skillet or dutch oven is the right diameter for these burners. The sides of the skillet or dutch oven push up against the side of the 3 or 4 quart pot. This effectively means it is rare that one can use more than 2 burners at any given time. Also, if I adjust the timer, it will frequently turn off any burner that is on. And the timer alert is so low you can't hear it unless you are right next to it. We have been unable to find any menu settings to adjust the timer sound. We follow the directions that should bring up a menu setting but nothing happens.

Worse then expected

After using this induction cooktop for a couple weeks now I can 100% say that I dislike it to the point of wanting to put back old broken stove. The touch panel is beyond confusing and slow to react. I have waited over 20min for a pot to boil and that is not how induction should work! Using the same pans on my old kitchen aid induction that this replaced would have been boiling in 5 mins! Even an old fashioned stove would have done this faster.

hard to tell after 1 day,but we did our research. nice feel to the controls. surface seems more sturdy and scratch resistant than older glass cooktops. time will tell. so far so good. it will be a learning curve after a lifetime of gas.
