For the most part, I like this bag. I needed to replace my Everyday Sling 10L to have a bit more carry capacity for my new daily carry; this bag does succeed in giving me that without needing to step up to a substantially larger bag that would be overkill. However, this bag doesn't quite live up to the level of perfection I've come to expect from all of my other Peak Design items.
The most notable flaw for me is that there are gaps at the bottom of the side-access zippers that open directly into the main volume of the bag. I don't expect this to be a significant problem since I don't anticipate carrying this bag in inclement weather for very long, but I still find it concerning. My second gripe is with the magnetic roll-top; I like this feature but wish there were additional magnets that would allow the flap to be folded down rather than awkwardly sticking up all the time—it's not exactly a roll-top if it doesn't roll down. Likewise, I wish the handles had a larger magnetic area to keep them together; they constantly come apart. Lastly, the shoulder straps don't feel very secure, they slide off my shoulders, and I must keep my hands on them to keep the bag from falling off my body.
I was in San Francisco on my birthday visiting from New York and had wanted to see this tote pack in person for a while. I stopped by the store and after trying it on my brother purchased the thing for me as a gift. What a revelation it has proven to be.
I worked as a cinematographer for travel and adventure shows for a number of years: National Geographic Explorer, Vice, HBO just to name a few and give a sense of how much travel I have had to do. Put simply, a malleable and versatile EDC is not only desirable but necessary for my travels, domestically and abroad. There are other bad companies who adapt military grade backpacks to edcs. These are absolutely useless for domestic travel as they are heavy or overbuilt, wrongfully taking the principles of war zones and trying to apply them to civilian travel. Then there are other companies who make heritage style backpacks that may look pretty from afar but are functionally useless. This tote pack is all I use now for a few-- seemingly revolutionary -- reasons.
The stiff yet creatively versatile dividers have allowed me to compartmentalize the pack in a way that allows me to separate foodstuffs from camera gear and even make a small space for swimming gear if I'm heading to the gym. That personalization is simply unavailable on any other pack I have owned. Also, the positioning of the zippers that access these dividers, particularly the side ones allows for a convenience when wearing the pack that is unmatched in any other bag I've ever used. You can access things by just allowing the pack to swing under your arm to your front and still keep moving briskly and conveniently as you head about your day. The materials are light and durable, which become the only concerns when you are carrying an EDC. What a surprise for me it was to notice that the slender backpack straps about which I was initially suspicious for being so thin actually provide a perfect amount of comfort and keep the bag light. I have cut through airports with a larger travel bag on my back and shifted this one to my hands as a tote with the top handles or situated it on top of a wheelie.
This is a near perfect bag. If I was to nitpick one possible and very slight improvement that could be made in future iterations, then it would be to expand ever so slightly small quick access pocket on the top front of the bag. The mesh pockets inside that little space are simply too small to be of much use and so I would make those mesh pockets a little larger or completely remove them. For now the space, holds my keys, a pen, some sunglasses and my headphones. So it works adequately. And this is me just suggesting it could be ever so slightly better.
Overall, this is a good-to bag that is nearly revolutionary in function and form. Highly recommended. Aesthetically, I receive multiple compliments over its elegance in design.
I bought this bag a year ago and have used it almost everyday since then. I can fit my laptop, water bottle, to-go mug, lunch container, wallet, pencil case, sunglasses, charging cables, and so many small miscellaneous items. It also works well for commuting on public transit (theft deterrent features have worked in my experience) and as a carry-on (though not perfectly sized for that). This is one of the best purchases I have ever made, and the warranty gives me the peace of mind to use the bag to its fullest potential. Highly recommend!
This is hands down the best backpack I've ever used. Here's why: - This is the most comfortable backpack I've worn. Even when it's fully packed and heavy to lift by the handle, I never feel that weight when I'm in backpack mode. - Even when loaded with all my, I always can find room to stuff it more than I need. For example, if the weather turns warm and I want to take off a sweater or light jacket I find I can stuff it in the tote up top. There's always a reason to put something in your bag and I have room even when loaded with my computer/camera gear and accessories. - It's nice to have easy access to camera on the side when I want to stow away things, however, I normally use the capture clips for more frequent access. - I took this bag throughout all of Vietnam, hiking thru rain and jungles and it still looks as good as when I got it.
There are definitely bags that pack more useful features, like water bottle pockets on the side, but, those come at the expense of style and the first thing I look for in a bag is the fit . If you don't really care about style, there are prob better bags than this.
I love this bag! My fiancé has had the Everyday Backpack V1 for years now and I finally got my own. The pockets are still perfect for what I need to use it for but I definitely prefer the design of the Everyday Backpack V1. Minimalist and stylish, this Totepack is perfect to go from work to travel!
I bought this as a gift for my wife starting a new teaching job recently. Her old "normal" tote bag didn't have the organization or versatility of this pack. The gamechanger for her with this Totepack is the shoulder straps that allow for a backpack carry. While the normal tote would fit the laptop and papers and other miscellaneous stuff, it wasn't as convenient as being able to wear this like a backpack with all of those things as well as carry all the random things in her hands that teachers end up taking to/from work each day. The ability to use one or both backpack straps is a big plus for her, as well, since she likes to keep one backpack strap connected and the other stowed away. The option to use just the magnetic or the zip closure on the main compartment is nice, too. The magnetic closure is secure and strong. Main compartment access using a side zip on either side is also very handy. I would also envision this being a great carry-on bag for travel as a personal item.
Had this bag for several years. Love the most, it fits and protects the laptop (15 and 14 inch MacBook pro) and camera gears nicely. One potential improvement that could be made is to the width of the strip. If I hold too much in the bag, the relatively narrow strips make it a bit uncomfortable on the shoulders
I recently bought this totepack and use it daily to bring papers, lunchbox, iPad etc to and from the office. Weekends it’s useful as a small backpack to carry a camera, drone or binoculars and some clothes when hiking or motorcycling. Only negative comment would be the aggressive magnets that make it difficult to pack narrow bag. That said I still love it
