Because I couldn't say goodbye to my well travelled, battered Peak Design Field Pouch V1—that clips into my backpack waist strap using two anchor links and is just right for a Fuji X100F with a few extra bits and bobs—I bought the V2 in black for said camera, and a lot more bits and bobs! Packed down small and worn with the shoulder strap its a discreet, stylish, lightweight, showerproof 'little black bag' for a camera and/or whatever and perfect for travel. But the beauty is that it 'grows' and grows!!! My only (little) grizzle is I'd have loved a wider strap. All up, amazing PD quality and thoughtful design—as always.
TLDR: Pros: - very study materials (just like their everyday v2 line) - keeps shape - stronger Velcro than v1 Cons: - can’t really use for photography/video uses - cannot fit a small lens since there’s a much smaller pouch than v1 - if using for everyday carry, the smaller pouches inside the zip meant for SD cards and much smaller items are pretty useless - the sides aren’t as flexible as v1 so when the interior full, it won’t stretch to fit your items well - peak design anchor link holes were removed and I much prefer that than hooking the links into the v2 attachments. I like to use my PD strap to use this as EDC - very tight pack when my load is just: small charger, two cables, nose spray and eye drop, utility tool, keyless car key, minimalist wallet. These already pack it to the brim and I can’t even imagine putting in a small lens like my 55 1.8 Zeiss.
If you own the field pouch v1 and you’re going to use it for photography/video, stick with it. I have the first version and I like the pockets in it much better than the smaller pockets on the v2. I find no use for the small pockets inside the zip pouch area when using it as a daily carry. One thing that I feel that was improved though was the sturdiness of it keeping the pouch in shape and the Velcro compared to v1. However, it also reduces the flexibility of the pouch making it less things you can pack. I wish they kept the larger pockets from v1 because you definitely cannot fit any lens inside or bigger items at all.
The Field Pouch V2 fixes every one of the problems of the Field Pouch V1, which itself had undergone several unannounced modifications over its production history. I gave my first Field Pouch away, primarily because the internal pocket arrangement of the V1 seemed to me to have been made up on the fly while being sewn together in the factory. Seriously. The V2 is altogether perfect.
