Threw four of these into a DS1517+ Raid 10 for photo storage. My other NAS has 6 4TB WD Red drives and hasn't had a problem in 4 years. I expect these14TB drives will run without issue for at least double their 5 year warranty as other WD drives have.
The shipping package is the worst I could see for HHD and the drives make loud clicking sound when reading and writing.

Hello,
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. Please accept my sincere apologies for the experience that you had to go through. Hard drives produce some noise when they work. The amount and kind of noise depend on what the hard drive is doing like reading or writing data. It's good to know which sounds are normal and which might mean there's a problem with the hard drive.
For more information please refer to the following link: "Reasons for Hard Drive Noise" :https://support-in.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/32906#subject2
We recommend connecting the drive as secondary storage via SATA port to the computer, to test the health of the drive using Western Digital Dashboard for Windows.

If the test is unfortunately inconclusive and you just purchased the drive then you should be able to return it to the place of purchase. However, if you are past their return policy, you can create an RMA through WD and replace the drive under warranty if necessary.

Purchased four of these 14TB red pro drives to use in an Asustor NAS. No problems with install or setup. Only been using the NAS for a few months and no problems to mention. The NAS is in a closet so I don't hear any noise if there is any, high performance is not a concern. Main concern is long-term reliability and that won't be known for some time I guess.
