Could use a few improvements

When it works, it works well. I have found that there are times when I'm in a plane and it can't seem to maintain a lock on satellites. I don't know if that's due to speed and/or altitude driving the loss. It has plenty of a view of the sky and should be locked on fine. Also, I wish the phone number that it uses to send was fixed and assigned, like it is with their competitors (Zoleo and SpotX). It's irritating that recipients can't put that number into their contacts.
So far this has been a valuable upgrade to the Garmin Inreach Mini that I previously had. I use this predominately for paragliding, so I appreciate the cleaner footprint on my flight deck, but the main value is in the improved messaging (faster, more streamlined interface) and battery life. I was just on a paragliding trip where I used it 6 days in a row for 5 hours a day, tracking every 10 minutes, and it still had 95% battery life without charging it. My only complaint is that it doesn't appear to be able to do group message threads, which can be an important feature to have. I'm hoping that is something Garmin can change in a future update.
I used it twice, and it worked fine. However now it won't charge fully, so I'm returning it for a new one. We'll see if it works better.

Thank you for your review and experience with the inReach Messenger. We would like to discuss this further over email. If you would please email us at product.support@garmin.com.
The messenger sent my wife check-in texts even when it was cloudy and snowing. Great for reducing worrying. I don’t consider myself as hiking solo anymore.
As a long time user of the Spot system I was a little hesitant to make the change but the 2-way messaging ability of this device is a true game changer compared to other straight emergency only items. Couldn't be happier with this change.
Awesome unit and a must have for anyone venturing beyond cell phone signal

This unit has been great for communicating in the back country. The ability to drop a location with each message is fantastic. The battery life is beyond compare, and while I haven't used the USB-C charger to charge from the device, it is great to know it's there if I need it. I take this thing everywhere when we go out adventuring, and haven't run into any issues with the unit.
