Compact device with great antennea

I use my inReach regularly while riding my bike in areas without cell phone coverage. In the mountains where I live that is actually quite a few places. It gives my wife peace of mind being able to track where I'm riding and I like the fact that if I actually had a problem I would actually be able to contact someone for help. I mostly use the canned check in messages which are easy to use and send from my watch.

I had a problem with getting my device signed up. Garmin help was closed all Labor Day weekend and I headed into the bush early Tuesday. Unable to use the inReach messenger on my wilderness trip. Disappointing a company that prides itself on emergy response is closed on weekends and Holidays!

Even though I have this paired to my phone, my wife was able to use it on her day off hiking in Montana's Mission Mountains. She was able to message me several times and I was able to see her location with each message. this is the only time we've used it since purchasing it last week. Impressed so far. Have some sort of an issue with the plan I signed up for though. Supposed to have unlimited pre-set messages and 40 custom texts. App says I'm down to 18 messages and there is now way 22 messages have went through this device. Hoping to get this resolved with Garmin.

I returned it and bought a mini2 thinking that I only had to use explore app. I found out different. Still have to use messenger app. All videos that I see demonstrating the app, don't match what I can find after downloading the Messenger app.

Would have been a 5 out of five but mine seems to turn on while stored in my gear bags. Something to watch. It may sounds strange but I have every version of the delorme inReach and Garmin inReach. these new generation seem to connect a lot quicker than the previous models. also the new Garmin App is fantastic. I would recommend buying this unit if you are already planning on having a phone with you. This is all I have to share at this time.

This is a great tool paired with my instinct watch. Stash it in you pack and forget about it. Everything else is done from the phone or smartwatch.
