Disappointed beyond belief

Bought my iPad case through the apple store and after just a week of use, the sliding part that holds the pen keeps coming lose. I can’t even snap it back. Two of the four brackets are popped out of place so I don’t know how secure the pen will be during travel. After buying nothing but Otterbox for over ten years, I may consider other options in the future.

Downgrade in every way from previous years

I agree with everything that reviewer Jayy said. This used to be the absolute perfect case for my pro/pencil combo, now I’m looking elsewhere. I even purchased the 4th gen case for my 5th gen model hoping it would fit but no - just a bit too thick! If one day you feel like reverting the terrible design choices made with this case back to “last years model” the I might reconsider the symmetry series it for now I’m moving on.

Tough Case

This case has been through a lot in the short time that I have owned it. I normally don’t write reviews… ever. But I left my iPad on the back of my truck and lost it. I found it just as a UPS semi was running over the case. There is a minor scuff in the corner of the case but My iPad didn’t crack, still works great, and my pen was still in tack and fully functioning. I would definitely recommend this case.

Can we just get the 4th gen case updated?

I used the 4th gen case for years and absolutely loved it. The flap tucked in the pencil snugly in place and held the front cover closed as well. The rear-attachment of the flap meant that it snapped closed in the front and opened very naturally like a book.
This 5th gen case replaces the flap with an awkward and ugly pullout drawer, which juts out whenever the pencil is stored. This means either you can't store the pencil there or it'll soon snag on something and break, and nothing in this version of the case actually keeps the front cover closed anymore.
I did a ton of looking around, and it seems nobody makes a case with a rear-attached flap like the 4th gen Otterbox for the 5th gen iPad, so I'm just hoping that Otterbox will fix their mistake and simply update their 4th gen case for the 5th gen iPad.

Pencil holder broke in 1 day

This case is awful. The pencil holder doohickey thingamabob broke off within 2 hours of me buying this case. I was able to snap it back in place and it broke off again the next day.

Extremely disappointed

I bought the new symmetry case for my new iPad 12.9 and the pencil holder has broken after less than a week of me having it and I bought a new pencil because I wanted to start using one and now it won’t hold my pencil in place and I’m very frustrated because it’s less than a week old. I need reliable protection for all of my Apple products and this just ain’t cutting it.

5th gen is step backward

Miss the flap that flipped over and held cover and case together as well as covered Apple Pencil.
The 5th gen pencil "drawer" is not well thought out.
It’s hard to release the drawer to get to the pencil. Couple of times the drawer has one detached. It took a lot effort to pop it back in.
The design of the 4th gen was better

Disappointed

I have always purchased Otterbox covers for my iPads, because of their looks, durability, and functionality; however, I am very disappointed in my last purchase: iPad Pro (12.9”) Symmetry Series 360 Elite. There is a design flaw - the pencil tray. The pencil-tray design not only makes it hard to insert/remove the pencil, but is very fragile and susceptible to breaking. After only 1-month of use, the pencil tray has come off, with no way to reinstall (see picture). I would not recommend this item to a friend.
While the review of this item is not positive, Otterbox normally provides quality products. In general, I would still recommend Otterbox covers for your devices, since they are nice looking and durable, but this item is the exception until corrective actions is taken on the pencil tray.
Note: Otterbox warranty is outstanding. I submitted for a warranty replacement yesterday, and today I received notification that the item has shipped. Hopefully the replacement will last a little longer than the “original”.
