Surprisingly stable and quick

I am a seasoned Garmin User, I got a few computers right when they were released always buggy to say the least. This time with the 1040 solar it is exactly the opposite, it is already rock solid stable, no bugs at all and the hardware is as fast as it can be. Battery life is huge compared to my previous 1030.

Solar Charging problems

I’ve been using a Hammerhead Karoo 2 since it came out primarily for its impressive navigation function and very fast response with solutions to any issue I have had. I often do gravel rides I would be unable to do without following routes of other riders. Its major flaw however is relatively short battery life. When the 1040 solar came out the biggest selling point to me anyway is amazing battery life and that has proven to be impressive. The touch screen is easy to use even with gloves and wet. A big down side of the unit however has been its poor navigation. On the first few gravel rides I went on routes I have ridden before. Multiple times it told me to make a u-turn. I knew that to be inaccurate and kept going with it eventually agreeing and finding the route. Another problem that occurred multiple times was the unit map lagging behind where I actually was causing me to miss turns and briefly being lost. It did ask if I wanted to reroute, when I push on the reroute nothing happened. I called customer support talking to two different people then changing to email correspondence. My unit is now being replaced which I’m grateful for, but I’m still not certain if my unit is bad, if I had something set up incorrectly or the 1040 as a whole has some flaws with it navigation ability. Other relatively minor issues, when I zoom in the navigation map to how I prefer it, it after a while zooms back out. I also find the glare on the screen to be off putting.

Best upgrade yet

I am incredibly pleased with this new upgrade. Solar energy is keeping it charged for a long time. The screen is easier to read. It connects to sensors flawlessly. Map looks better (I think).

Used 5 times till now and potentially is a great device but at a present time there are still many software issues that need to be resolved

Great monitor, best one i have had

Awesome the long the battery lasts with the little solar panels. Nice feature also where you can sees your stamina at the pase you are going, calculates your remaining kms. Need software update, sometimes it does not tell you how much it is charging with sun, but that should be fixed with software.

Very Fast and the Battery Lasts

Love the new unit. Switched from an Edge 1030 and I cannot believe how quickly it starts up. I use a couple of lights and a radar and the lights set up quickly as well. I have used it 6 times and still have 79% battery so the solar really helps. I have one complaint. No support for the Varia Vision. I ride alone in the country most rides and not having the heads up view for radar alerts as well as ride data is missed. Please fix this!
