Love the addition of solar!

For somebody who sometimes forgets to charge the night before a quick ride, this feature is great! Obviously, clouds, dusk and dawn are issues, but in bright sun I am seeing about a 30% addition in minutes to my battery life for that particular ride. This means less charging overall. Having upgraded from a 1000 I love the bigger screens and better maps. Also, the maps are onboard now - I don't need an SD card. This includes the Europe maps! The only downside for me has been that my sensors - cadence, speed, headlight and radar all randomly disconnect and reconnect. Garmin is working on this with me, but no solution yet. If we could get that sorted - this would be a 5 star review.

Lots of software bugs that need to be ironed out.

Long time Garmin user and "upgraded" from 1030 Plus to 1040 Solar to get the new interface. Lots of bugs around navigation, e-bike, device disconnects, screen responsiveness, etc Elevation lags 15-20s (Climb a hill and reach crest over and the elevation still goes up). I already sold my 1030+ and wish I didn't. I really think Garmin released this flagship product way to early.
Garmin, I have reported several of these issues to support, but no fixes yet.

It just works - no major bugs on roll out

Migrated DSP wahoo which was good for basic stats. But 1040 solar has so much more and I like the whiz bang charging that keeps it going forever. Needs faster update on gradient (2-3 sec delay). Lie how it controls other brands of lights, and links with phone, HR, power meter etc - ie it just works

My 810 finally bit the dust…it was great too! The 1040 was super easy to set up and get riding. It has a lot more stats than th 810 too which is great!

Been a Wahooligan mainly, but switching over to the 1040 Solar was definitely worth it. Amazing bike computer with some very nice features. Highly recommended.
