Replacing my 1030 and find the screen much easier to read and they spent a lot of time structuring the information on the screens over the prior version. Quite happy with the purchase.

Overall nice but had some issues

I love the big display and features but have had two issues. I keep getting prompted for an update of the software but each time the update fails saying it could not download the files. this happens every time and I have yet to be able to apply the update. This is on my home network. I also had to do a factory reset after the unit quit showing the grade on climbs. Battery life is amazing. I would not pay extra for the solar unit unless you are going to be away from a charger for a long time. Works well with my heart monitor, Garmin rear radar, cadence sensor, and speed sensor.

I bought the Garmin 1040 computer to work with my power meter pedals. It is the first and only computer of this type that I’ve purchased so my ability to compare it to others is not possible. However, being a 70 year old cyclist who’s ridden and done some racing over my 50 years on a bike I can say that it has exceeded my expectations. I’m somewhat computer literate, not an expert by any means but, the unit is easy to use, tracks all the training or race data that my coach and I will ever need and the battery runs a very long time between charges. So am I pleased with the thing? Yes indeed.

The larger screen accommodates great viewing even with 10 data fields. The flexibility to change and modify on the fly is great.

I purchased a new Garmin 1040 when my 1030 finally fell apart after many years of rough roads and use! The new device has many new features which are more user friendly and useful! The navigation has a feature to return to start location via reverse route or most direct! Love it!! The screen display is in color and very easy to read, day or night! The battery life is as good or better than my 1030, which gives me all day riding capacity without worry for power.

Have had this about a month and find it is easy to use. I was having trouble reading my other Garmin and this one works great for me. The maps are easy to follow and see. Everything else that i have tried also works very well. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is thinking about a bike computer.
