First bike computer - seamless integration
on March 28, 2024
Posted by: Dan W
This is my first bike computer after using my iPhone as a (rudimentary) bike computer for some time. I love the edge 1040 and how well it seamlessly synced to my cadence/speed/power/heart sensors. I also use it on my wahookickr v6 and it synced to everything there perfectly as well.
I haven’t tried the navigation yet on some routes I’ve downloaded, but I’m looking forward to it.

Great replacement for my Edge 820
on March 30, 2024

I have had this less than a month, and March has not been much of a month for riding. But I love it. I can read the display (size is helpful for these old eyes). The 820 was just too small, and I think, lower contrast. Could have saved with the downsized 1040 (the 840) but size matters. It also responds to my touch; the 820 did too after several frustrating tries. Cannot wait to try some of the new features. It has so many, that I will surely seldom or never use a number of them (hill climbing is southern Delaware?) but already I am fully satisfied with the purchase.

After the 1030, it's a much better unit

I have had a 1030 for say 10 years, and finally upgraded. This is a nicer unit, much faster and with a much better screen and speaker, I can actually hear it after many years of silence due to declined hearing. I pair it with my Radars, works very well. Great maps and climbs built into the maps.

Terrible maps
on April 10, 2024

I bought this thinking it was an upgrade from my Edge 1030. Boy was I wrong. The map is non-existent. I went back to my 1030 which is easier to use and the map is detailed.

The training feed back is great. Radar is really cool. I lead rides and seeing 1000 feet behind us is great

Easy to use and extremely long battery
on April 27, 2024

I have had the 1040 for a little over a month and it’s traveled about 150ish miles. The 1040 is very user friendly and intuitive. It easily sinks with my HR, Cadence and speed sensors. I do enjoy the larger screen as compared to the 840 and it does not have too much glare. I was concerned about glare from some online reviews I viewed, but it’s extremely easy to see and does well in low light or bright sun.
I would say the one drawback is the hill assist as it is usually delayed, in that I am already climbing the hill, then it tells me there is a hill ahead. Once on the climb it does well with gradients and it also delays in telling you the hill is completed. But I know I’m done.
The Battery has not been charged since my initial out of the box 100% charge. Unit is currently at 60% power. That’s after approximately 15 hours of use to include riding and a few hours of dorking around with it getting used to all the submenus and initial setup.
Additionally, it is very fast to turn on and ready to use. I ride with guys using wahoo and hammerheads and I’m ready to go and they are still booting up. Secondly, if a ride is changed. It’s an easy fix. Just pull off of ride with GPS export as a GPX file and then Bluetooth to the 1040. I can have a whole new route uploaded in under 30 seconds.
All in all I’m pleased with this purchase.

Miss my 1030
on April 29, 2024

I have done about 10 rides so far and the computer itself is fine but getting use to the differences from the 1030 have been difficult. At the start of every ride when I calibrate my power meter the computer always registers 1863 on my power and average power. I do everything as before with my 1030 and I also try to delete the ride to get rid of that number but it is always there. It stinks since it affects my power numbers for the entire ride. That is just one of the many small annoying differences from the 1030 to the 1040. I just feel the 1030 was a little more intuitive to use and less complicated.
