High Sierra removed the most important feature!
on May 23, 2022

As a world traveler of over 6 years, I found the High Sierra duffel to be the MOST VERSATILE high quality luggage to take with me on my travels. It was the one I relied on year after year. Unfortunately, High Sierra decided to remove the most important feature: The shoulder straps!
Shoulder Straps are ESSENTIAL when, for example, staying in various accommodations around the world where the only option to reach your room is via a steep and narrow staircase. This is a common scenario. And, there are plenty of other scenarios where shoulder straps come in handy. But, now that High Sierra has removed this feature, it means that I have no suitable replacement bag. I have not found any other company producing such a versatile bag either.
I actually feel somewhat betrayed by High Sierra.
Why make an inferior product? (You're going in the wrong direction!)

I purchased the exact same bag years ago and loved loved loved it it was my favorite bag, I purchased this one in the hopes that it would have the same quality. I am so disappointed that it doesn’t, it is missing the straps, and the expandable part in the middle

Best travel bag around. I only take a star away because I loved the backpack straps on the older version. Bring back the backpack straps. Makes traveling easier in foreign countries.

The only reason it's not a 5 star is that the design is different from the one I have. The bottom compartment is smaller than the top compartment and that is opposite of the one I'm replacing. I have had my current High Sierra duffel bag for about 20 years and was hoping it would last until I retired but a zipper broke and I got a flat tire! LOL 20 years of throwing this bag in and out of a truck weekly! Well done!!!

Doesn't get any better

My wife and I purchased these duffels for international travel two years ago. Since then, they have served us faithfully throughout EU, Mexico, Kenya, Tanzania, Mediterranean, and all-around North America. Often, packed to absolute capacity and at the mercy of baggage handlers, safari jeeps and, yes, inquisitive animals of all sorts, these have been spectacular. Not one puncture, tear or broken connector. Zippers are unbelievable. The drop bottom is perfect for shoes, boots as well as all types of flexible packing. The waterproof section held spills, leaks and all of our "other stuff". The main compartment was perfect for cubes. These had replaced two 34" drop bottom duffels that previously served us in very different parts of the world for over 12 years. No issues with those either but just felt it was time to give them a break (as if giving them to kids was a break). If you are in the market for a reliable, dependable, high quality "Mother Ship" Duffel, look no further.

Love drop-bottom duffels. This one fell apart fast

Love drop-bottom duffels. We had two of another brand that lasted for YEARS: kids to and from summer camps, checked in international and connecting flights, too many car camping trips to count. Always overstuffed. Finally hit the wall last summer: so we replaced with a 28-inch High Sierra. Used … maybe 3x. Never flown. And the zipper completely shredded as my son was closing it last week. Great structure, terrible zipper quality.

This is the fourth High Sierra bag of this type that we have bought and we couldn’t be happier. This is big enough to to combine two previously used bags and allow another checked bag. The design is great for organized packing.

Disappointing

We bought this bag to replace a High Sierra bag the airline destroyed. It is roomy with well placed compartments, but a couple fatal flaws. Who designed this? The base is so narrow it doesn't "travel" well...i.e., it is constantly twisting, tipping, losing its center off its wheels as I walk because the base is too narrow! It is already too large to be a carryon so I'm shocked this wasn't discovered during product testing and the base made an inch or two wider. Also the velcro on the hand straps is minimal... every time I fly i work to line it up perfectly with hopes to secure it and every time it comes through baggage claim unclasped leaving it vulnerable to get hung up on something. Seems so easy for High Sierra designers to fix thear issues, please do.
