[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I can't say enough about LEGO brand. My grandbabies love anything LEGO brand. The wild animal rescue missions is very interactive and so much fun. Easy to use. And adding technology to it is perfect for kids. Great learning tool.

Low value, requires screen time

There's zero reason for this set not to have included instructions and pushed an app.
The "story parts" of the app could easily have been a small comic-book-style pages in the middle of traditional directions (and there are plenty of traditional directions -- the majority of the "app experience"). And the free play parts could easily have been just another page in the directions or a cardboard backdrop.
The set has nice pieces, but the price is higher than normal to subsidize the development of the totally unnecessary app.
The app experience itself is poor: slow loading (slow enough that a child would have patience issues). Any "creative play" parts aren't really anything at all. An example is "open bag 3, build a traffic light according to normal directions, and then do whatever you want using the rest of the bag to find a way to get the owl off the top of the traffic light". The app gives 3 small example images (which paper easily could do, too). Nothing about the app adds to any creative play: it's only there to be a cartoon with some pauses for play backgrounds. There was zero reason for this to be app-based either. The same prompts would have been trivial to include in paper.
I get the feeling that Lego is testing the waters for "let's abandon including instructions" in the box" with these Missions sets, and disguising it as a creative play experience.
This set would have been better as with traditional directions, with the added comic/free-play parts included on paper. (And there's no real truth to "digital is more sustainable than paper".)
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Kids loved it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Lego missions are seriously my kids’ new favorite thing. The video stories really made it interactive and added an element of fun so that even my younger kiddos could watch and play along as the older ones build. That being said, I do wish there was a story book included in the box as we had to delay the first time we went to build because I didn’t have my phone with me.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this for my nephew and love it. Very easy to follow the directions put together. It's perfect for kids and adults as a nice building workshop to do together or apart. I love also they they are interchangeable you can make what is on the box or do your own thing. It's a great toy and makes for a great activity.

Kid and Parent Approved!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son LOVES Legos. The LEGO Wild Animal Rescue Missions set was, by far, his favorite set! I have to admit, I also think that this is the coolest thing I've seen with LEGO. I love that instead of using the traditional instruction booklet, you use an interactive app to solve building challenges, play digital stories while using your LEGOs and interact with characters. My son was captivated from the moment he opened the box and it has sparked a whole new level of creativity with him, which I couldn't love more! I highly recommend this, and will definitely be getting other sets!

Wished it was a comic, but loved it

My child has really enjoyed this set so far. The imaginative play potential is really high and I appreciate the "base build" + creativity concept of the series: it is something I hope Lego does more of in the future. The videos are fun and we liked the build music.
The build instructions and application were (mostly) navigable without help although they did get hung up a few times on what the app was asking them to do and I had to help. In particular the "play time" thing wasn't clear to them.
I wish the free build prompts had suggested some more ideas instead of just the builds like: "How will you contact the scientists at base? What will you need for animals that are only awake at night?" I really wish there was a PDF version of the instructions instead of the app. I think a comic book format would have been awesome to drop the technology requirement and would have been just as fun of a parent + child activity.
They really got a sense of pride by completing the model themselves and were bragging that they "didn't need the instructions or any help!" by the end.

Thanks for your feedback. Looks like we could've made the building experience even better on the LEGO® Builder app. We love to explore new ways to build, but we also keep the PDF versions of most of our sets. Check them out at LEGO.build/BI-BV.

Lego trying to remain technologically relevant. I like the optional builds, but the online aspect wasn't important to me. Maybe kids will like it, though.

I was skeptical about this line of sets but was blown away by the production value of the story on the app and how much fun my son had building his own solutions to the problems in the story using the pieces in this set. Overall there a ton of great parts and this set is going to be a big part of my son's collection.
