Slowest scanner in the world
on March 21, 2014

This scanner on the WF-3540 is the slowest scanner that I have ever seen. It took most of the morning to scan around 50 pages. The software that came with this scanner killed my Epson GT-S50 scanner which was fast.
There is no way that I can recommend this product.

Most Amazing Printer Ever

I have had my Epson Workforce WF-3540 for nearly 2 years now and it works GREAT for my home use. It does everything I want it to do plus more. For what it costs, it is definitely worth the expense! This is an amazing product, and I would certainly recommend it!

poor setup instructions

Setup needs simplified, I ended up with 6 windows open and still Epson Connect not done?? Intial setup easy until you get to the outside world which is why I bought this specific printer, even though I WAS warned of setup head ache. Iphone/Ipad found with no problem- email address still not working. Residential use needs easy straight forward setup. Needs links to every function that needs setup for complete use and then you will have a good useable simplified product.

Epson XP 400/ink
on August 22, 2014

I would not recommend this printer. I am a teacher and rely on my printer. The ink (200 cartridge) has to be replaced when one color runs out. So even if you don't use the color for printing/ copying, the message to replace the cartridge, which ever is out appears. Even though the printer screen shows printing can be extended, no printing can continue. So cartridge has to be bought to continue. There is nothing to alert the consumer until after ink cartridge is used up.

Seems like a good product but -

I think the WF-3540 is a good product. however there are a couple things about installation that could be improved. First, the software drivers are on a CD, but Macs nowadays do not come with their own CD drive. Whether or not that's a good idea is debatable, but when I went to the Epson site to download the drivers to my Mac, it said to run Software Update. However this does nothing because I can't update software that hasn't been installed yet! Thus I had to get out my older laptop and transfer the contents of the CD to a flash drive and run the installation from my flash drive. Fortunately this worked, but it should have been more streamlined, i.e. just give us the drivers online!
Second, during installation I am asked to input my Administrator password, but there is no explanation on what's going to happen. I'm a little leery about typing my password and letting some sort of invasive software take over my computer. I trust Epson, but, you never want to blindly give an unknown software permission to do something unknown.
Thirdly, it is not clear during the installation if my ethernet was set up or I am printing with AirPrint.
Anyway, everything seems to be working, knock on wood.
I tried scanning a text page and it went reasonably fast.
I also scanned an old color photo and it turned out well but at first I couldn't find the file. I would have expected a window to open to allow me to crop out the rest of the 8.5x11 area that was scanned.

scanning not reliable

Hooked up to a Mac desktop. Scanner frequently can't find computer (even though it IS attached). Scanning is super slow and there is no option to combine pages for a multi page doc. Only good thing is that color copies come out nicely.

A little disappointing on print quality
on April 28, 2014

It might be the paper, but in draft mode, this printer output is barely legible.
You really have to crank the quality up to standard or high quality, but then the number of pages from a set of ink cartridges drops off sharply.
