NOT FOR OCCASIONAL HOME USE!!!!!

I bought the 3540 because of all the features it has. Business use, maybe. But for home use, consisting of some document printing, miscellaneous text printing, and Photoshop printing, this use can be sometimes sporadic. I have found this to be a frustrating battle because the ink system dries out if it sits too long and it takes a lot of cleaning cycles to keep it running. Cleaning cycles take a LOT of ink and trying to use this machine this way becomes prohibitive. I've gone back to using my former printer because its always ready to go. I'm probably going to just junk the 3540 and find a simple scanner.

Epson 3540

Bought the model after seeing favorable reviews by large chain of stores selling Epson. Shouldn't have wasted my time and money. The Epson 3540 prints fairly fast and was easy to set up. That's the only good things that I can say. Negatives: 1) try to save file to a flash drive connected to the Epson - get a "lack of space" error message. Plug drive into computer and file is loaded, 2) insert flash drive with photos and the machine only wants to process pix - even won't let computer access data files on flash, 3) open lid to scan/fax and the cover for manual paper feed opens (minor design flaw), 4) manual paper feed recognizes inserted paper but then refuses to use it (sends paper thru and then prints a sheet from drawer), 5) pix printed on machine not as clear as that of another manufacturer, 6) another manufacturer would allow the option of multiple files from a single scan (i.e., scan multiple pix and then save each to a file) - Epson doesn't have this feature, 7) telephone used to send fax doesn't ring since connected to Epson.

Epson 3540

I purchased a different printer of the 8600 variety for roughly the same price as the Epson 3540. I used them side by side. The Epson was clearyly a smoother running machine, with clearer scanning and faster printing. Besides the quality of the prints and scans the Epson has more options like double sided scanning and copying, higher capacity paper storage, optional rear paper feed tray, and a larger, nicer, and easier to use display than the 8600 model. Only difficulty I had with the Epson was with the install disc. Kept giving me a "runtime" error". Not sure what that is about but I will call customer support and see how that works out. I will review customer support next. Great Printer! Dont hesitate, if you need a printer in this price range this is the one.

Multi-Tray Handling Bugs
on May 10, 2014

While this printer is advertised as multi-tray and envelope capable the current implementation is so poor that this isn't really usable. Tray 1 must be used for any non-letter sized paper (e.g. envelopes, photo paper, etc.). Tray 1 is always the default though. You can under windows change your preset to change the default to tray 2. However, there is no way to change the printer overall. This means that Airplay, Google Cloud Print, other apps will all print to tray 1. This is a firmware problem with the printer that needs to be fixed by Epson before the 2 trays are useful for anything other than letter. See the extensive list of others that have problems with this in reviews across the web. Epson, please respond with an acknowledgement and commitment to fix this issue.

BEWARE! IT WILL COST YOU A FORTUNE IN INK!

The product itself preforms flawlessly. However, if you are like the average family/student and will need to print school work or any assignments; this thing is terrible! They have chips in the ink cartridges that do not allow them to be refilled! So Epson will continue to see lots of your money because you must buy NEW ink cartridges every time they run dry. Oh and don't think that if you run out color, you can just switch to black and white! OH NO THEY PUT A BLOCK AND THE PRINTER WILL NOT PRINT AGAIN UNTIL IT IS FILLED WITH GENUINE ($$$$$$) EPSON INK CARTRIDGES! Had I known I would have NEVER purchased!

Great Printer

This printer (work force 3540) is the best printer I have ever owned or used. I have been working in the computer field for almost 25 years repairing/programming, setting up networks and I have nothing but good words to say about this Epson wf-3540. It never jams, prints cleanly and is quite fast. I have 4 other printers that I have worked with including 2 B/W and 2 color lasers. One color laser is still in service as well as the 2 ink jet printers. All 3 are competitors of Epson. This one tops them all and the price is excellent. I am even contemplating replacing the 2 color lasers with 2 of these 3540's. Thank you Epson

Poor Product

WF-3540 bad product! Got this model less than 3mos ago but the scanner has gone bad. Anytime I use the automatic feeder to scan multiple document, I get line strips all over documents. I have had to use main scanner to individually scan 20 or 30 documents. The sad this is that the scan happens per page and unable to put all 20 or 30 pages together. Imagine that! I will never purchase epson product again!

And nothing but the truth

So as with most purchases I make and have made for years I read everything I could about the most suitable printer for my home office. This went on for a couple of days. Finally I went to a store that sells a very wide variety of printers. Some I had never heard of. What I had read about Epson printers I also heard from the sales person to whom it made no difference what I purchased, just so I did. Happy with my selection and the research time it appears was worth it.
