I have the 3540 printer since Christmas. I had Epson 500 before and really liked it. Then the scanner just quit. So I purchased the 3540 and I am trying to scan. I have a Mac OS X. Does anybody know, do I have to have a certain software on my computer to do scanning, Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It takes me half a day to scan something. Please someone help.

Haven't had it long. It's fast and very clear. Small issue because of Microsoft 8.1 but that was easily fixed with a call to their tech line and I only had a 2 min wait.
Quick fix.

Have had this printer up and running for several hours now..
The print feature is great.
Set up was a little frustrating because it continued to give me a paper jam alert.
Their solution didn't work, so I had to talk to the tech folks...
The cartrige holder's cap was not snapped down.
Should have been snapped down from the factory.
Once done, it set up very easy...even the wi-fi connection.
Have used a WF600 for 5 years previous to this one.
Neat machines !!

What an upgrade!

This is an upgrade for me and I am certainly impressed. There are real paper trays, two in fact. Double-sided printing is awesome and airprint for apple products was a necessity. Setup was a breeze for me as I try to upgrade every other year or once a year. I don't print too much of anything but I still try to keep plenty of ink on hand.

Excellent Printer

I wanted an all-in-one printer that was networkable via ethernet, would replace my current stand-alone printer and scanner, and would be accessible to iPhones and iPads over my local wireless network. The WF-3540 met all requirements. The quickstart guide talked you step by step through the printer setup and software install. Using an ethernet cable to attach the printer directly to my wireless router eliminated the possibility of WiFi setup problems. So far I have successfully used the printer over the netowrk with my Windows PC (Windows 7), my iMac (OSX 10.6), my iPhones and iPads. All features work well, with no quirks or surpises. (I am unable to test the FAX feature as I have gotten rid of my landline and use cell phone only.) I would recommend downloading the 300+ page reference manual for this printer from Epson's web site Although I didn't need the manual for setup, it has all the information you might need to get the most out of your printer and to trouble shoot any possible problems you might have.

WF-3540 for School Needs

Epson WF-3540 Review by a Mom for those who use their printer for school needs
This information was not found in any review I read so I’m posting here. I recently had to replace my 3 year old Epson Workforce 840 with the WF-3540. Both printers use the same 126/127 ink cartridges. Other reviews talk about print speeds and how much it costs for ink, so I’m ignoring those topics. Here, I’ll comment on the new printer based on my particular needs as well as some helpful instructions not found in the users guides. Hopefully some of you will find it helpful.
Setup wasn’t bad; I set the printer up on 4 machines, one Mac running Lion, one PC with Vista, one laptop with Windows 7 64 bit, and one laptop with Windows 7 32 bit. I haven’t braved the Linux laptop yet. (you need to go to a third party site for Linux drivers.) The 32 bit machine doesn’t have a cd drive so I went to the support website listed in the start here guide to download the software. I have the printer wired via Ethernet to my router with the mac and Vista machines also wired but the laptops are connected via Wi-Fi. Things progressed smoothly and quickly on all 4 machines.
Machine features:
The platen is letter sized (ok, 8.5” x 12”), not legal sized, just like the Workforce 840. However, you can scan legal documents through the auto document feeder and print them full sized on legal paper without any problem. The only problem I foresee is when I need to make a copy of a textbook or other oversized object.
The touchscreen panel is at a 45-degree angle from the front of the machine but unlike the Workforce 840, it cannot be folded down to be flush with the front of the machine.
Printing flashcards (duplexed, of course) is possible for 4 x 6 index cards, but not 3.5 x 5 cards. The windows software is easier and more intuitive, but I can make it work on the mac as well. For Windows:
File, Print, Settings: Print all.
Print on both sides (choose your flip – long edge or short edge)
Then, you must click on printer properties. Check the 2-sided printing check box. Automatic duplexing is NOT an option for 4x6 – it is available for letter sized printing.
(You may wish to make a preset for flashcards by clicking the add/remove presets button.)
Then click OK.
Then click print and you’ll start printing the first side of your flashcards. A window will open showing you which way to rotate the printed cards before you put them back in the print tray. Put the cards back in and press continue.
On the mac, printing flashcards can be done, but is less intuitive.
Under Paper Handling, select Pages to Print – Odd Pages and then Page Order – Normal.
Print the front side of the cards, then put the cards back into the printer, rotating for “flip on the long edge.” Then go back to Paper Handling, select Pages to Print – Even Pages and Page Order – Reverse. Then print.
I usually print about 50 cards at a time and only extremely rarely have a problem with paper jams.
To reduce two letter sized pages to half size and print them on one piece of letter sized paper, go to Copy, scroll down to Layout, and select Letter, 2-up copy. I use this to print a two month-on-one-page calendar.
Under the “More functions” section of the touchscreen menu, ID card copy allows you to make a copy of one side of an ID card and then the other side and print it on one piece of paper. Even when the ID’s two sides are placed in the same spot on the platten, they are printed a few inches apart on the piece of paper.
I don’t print photos, so I have no comment on the printer’s photo printing capabilities. However, when I need to print pictures for a school presentation board, I find that I get much better, more eye-popping results when I print the final pictures on glossy, 34 lb presentation paper. I have had my one ream last for over 4 years.
Overall, I’m pleased with the WF-3540 and would recommend it.

Better than Advertised!

I bought this printer to replace a color laser that was just too costly to keep using. The WF-3540 is so much faster and the picture/graphics are much better than the laser. I never thought I would need a sheet feed scanner, but now that I have it, I keep playing with it.

So far so good.

I am by far a tech person. I'm a 62 year old grandma that calls for help. After reviewing many printers online, I decided on the WF-3540 for all the options. I do a lot of printing for volunteer work and love the auto 2-sided feature. I can also get rid of my extra fax machine. I read the instructions before removing anything else from the box. I found them easy to follow. I followed the instructions, step by step, to set the printer up without any problems. It was a lot faster and easier then I ever expected and everything worked the first time. I am very proud of myself. My husband was also impressed with me.
