Problems with set up.

I had to set up the printer using the touch screan becuse I did not have a usb cord whichis is not included. It is ironic that you need to connect your pc to the printer to set up the wifi feture. Now that it is up and running, it runs well, print quallity is good. All in all it works well. I just expected more from an Epson.

easy setup

setup w/ my apple laptop (3 years old already) running mountain lion. Setup off a disc using wifi in minutes. Print quality good. Prints legal from 2nd paper drawer, but photo only from 1st drawer. Scans legal size on flatbed and has 2-sided scan and print. Good for the price, will probably require ink replacement often, although larger cartridges are available (those coming w/ the printer print only ~383 pages BW, not quite a whole ream of paper).
Scanner works well w/ wi-fi. I stuffed 16 sheets of double-sided financial statements into the sheet feeder and it did one-pass scanning into a pdf document (32 pages) without a glitch, albeit a little slower than a Fujita or Bell & Howell at 4 - 10 times the price. On the duplex scanning, every other page was upside-down but it looks like I can adjust that in the software by setting each page orientation for duplex.

First Impressions Good

I have been using a Brother printer for a few years now. Previously, I've owned HP, Canon, Brother, and Epson.
This printer was said to have a large footprint in the reviews I read, but it had a smaller footprint than my Brother MFC-459 All-In-One, which preceded it. It's a little taller, but not much, so size wise, I like it, especially in light of its ability to scan and print 2 sided doc without manual intervention.
About the scanner: I love the 2 sided scanning feature! I'm also impressed that the Auto Document Feeder works with out double feeds or without skewing the document, problems which plagued me on my previous printer, and so relegated me to using the scanner table only. The Epson Scanner software is really not for a professional user. It's the same software they've used since my previous Epson printer, and it's not user friendly. It requires too many settings to scan other than an 8.5X11 sheet. And it calls in a 3rd party program, ABBYY Fine Reader, to convert the scanned document to a PDF, taking additional time to scan a document. I have been using a 3rd party scanner software which does everything to produce a photo or PDF in one scan operation. And it works with my new Epson printer!
About the printer: I like the print speed, and the double sided printing without manual intervention. I also love the two 250 page paper trays and the ability to print an 80 page job without having to reload paper. I'm a little surprised at the amount of ink used. I have printed relatively few documents up till now over the last 2 weeks. I have just now completed an 80 page print job of 8.5X14 in. size and during that job had to replace 2 of the standard cartridges supplied with the machine. I guess I'm always surprised that each printer I get seems to use more ink than the previous. The print quality in B&W is more than adequate, but printing a solid color background appears to create 1 in. wide bands on the page most likely correlating to the pass of the print head over that area of the page.
About setup and wireless: I found setup to be easy using the packaged Quick Installation Guide. The wireless setup was also very easy as I was replacing a wireless printer in a wireless router network. During setup, the printer looked for a network and allowed me to connect. Subsequent wireless connection of other PCs to the network printer went flawlessly.
Overall, I like the printer and would purchase it again.

Epson Workforce Makes Working From Home A Breeze

The WF-3540 is everything I need and then some at home. It's a great machine, although I haven't used all the features, like fax, over the past 3 months that I've owned it.
Setup was simple, and quick, and connecting wirelessly just as easy. It prints fast with easy to use controls from the touchscreen or from my computer. The print jobs are sharp, clean and vibrant, and the WF provides many print options, like auto double sided, at the simple click of your mouse. You can also print direct from an sd cards, just pop it directly into the machine.
Copying is just as easy and responsive, with a 30 page feeder on top, and 500 sheet paper tray! The WF also scans beautifully direct to my computer and I can even print from my iphone or over the web, an extra added bonus.
And finally, I've been copying and printing like a madman. Although I purchased extra ink when I bought the printer, I'm still using the original cartridges that came with it. Now that's just another amazing added bonus! No?
What else can I ask for?

Menus too complex and not user friendly!!!!
After days of trying to customize menus, called in IT specialist. After 2-1/2 hpurs he said menus are too rigid, complex and do not help me at all. I returned printer to store and kept my Epson Workforce 840 which is completely user friendly and does exactly what I want!!!
Sad for such a good company to do this!!!

Another Great Product From Epson

I am very impressed with this printer's capabilities and it's had a lot of use (both personal and business) in the short time I've had it. The double-sided printing and the ADF work perfectly, as does the rear paper feeder; the color matching is superb; it's easy to change paper; and enough paper in the machine that you don't have to re-load often.
The only improvement that I can see is enabling it to switch to Cassette 2 when Cassette 1 runs out of paper in the middle of printing something.

Great Epson printer

I have had the printer several months now and it is used nearly daily as my home printer. The ease of setup was great in a wireless environment. Operation is simple, straight forward, and, so far flawless with over a ream paper used. Changing ink cartridges is easy and clean. They seem to last a long time. Printing speed is fast and the print is clear and sharp. No problems of any sort so far and its what I would expect as a longtime user of an Epson 3800.
