This, like Thrustmasters other offerings from the T-1600M and up, is an incredibly well made, polished and easy to use product. The person who rated it 1* is very likely expecting a ready to use system without so much as reading the description and realizing what this product ACTUALLY is.
Firstly, it is a GRIP, and NOT a flight stick. The difference is that a flight stick, in general, has all the components required for it to work correctly. This is not that. It is a grip modelled in exquisite detail after that of the F/A18c multirole fighter flight stick and it is nearly identical in almost every way.
As someone who regularly flies the F/A18c in DCS, I can tell you that this is almost exactly the same size and layout that you would find in a REAL F/A18c Hornet.
Being a grip, and NOT a flight stick, it does require a base. The wonderful thing is that you have choices. You can use the base from Thrustmaster's HOTAS Warthog with this grip. You can buy the base separately if you already have a throttle - or, you can buy the entire HOTAS system, and simply replace the A10 Thunderbolt II Warthog grip from that system with this, and it will feel just like an F/A18c Hornet.
The other option is that you can use either the Mongoos or WarBRD bases from Virpil Controls (VPC). Virpil is a European company specializing in realistic, highly detailed and finely crafted flight controls, and their bases work with this AND Thrustmaster's other grips such as the Warthog & F16 Viper grips.
Either choice is excellent and you will very much enjoy it, as it provides a wonderful sense of immersion for your favorite aircraft.
I use my VPC controls for DCS, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Arma III and several other games. I have also used Thrustmaster's T-16000M and I can tell you that they have some great quality work in their flight simulation equipment.
You will not be disappointed with this purchase, so long as you understand that you WILL need a base for this to work correctly.

A Reputable Grip

The Thrustmaster F/A-18 Hornet Grip is by far one of the most valuable parts for a flight sim nerd or enthusiast.
However there are some things to consider:

-It has a much better build quality than competitor Hornet sticks (Such as Winwing).
-It is also just a Grip, so unless you own the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, The Warthog Base, or a third party HOTAS Base, this will be useless to you.
-Do not be deceived by the price; you must also purchase a HOTAS base for the stick (that is compatible with TM products) and you must own or must purchase a throttle component.
All things to take into consideration before the purchase, make sure to watch plenty of reviews of the product. Some I would suggest to watch are by Growling Sidewinder, Ralfidude, and Spudknocker, (all Youtube channels). These people provide detailed pros and cons to this product.
