Way better than Denon S960h. Packs a lot of punch!

This receiver made my speakers come to life! The details, the clarity is obvious without hitting the harsh territory. It puts a smile on my face. In comparison, the Denon S960h for the same price is pale and lifeless. The calibration mic did a wonderful job. Menu is easy to use and looks better than Denon. Also the 8K/4K 120hz works perfectly when playing PS5 or plugging in my gaming PC with a RTX 3090. With the denon, it just goes black, and apparently I have to email denon for them to send me a dongle whereas in the Pioneer, it works perfectly! I love this receiver, firmware update works perfectly no issues, feel bad about the other reviewer getting a defective one (it happens).
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great home theater receiver

This is a great home theater receiver fully equipped
It has all the options I wanted.
Dolby vision, atmos, pass through. Alexa, Google.
I replaced a pioneer vsx-lx102 which I really liked but it didn't have two hdmi outs.
This makes life easier for my t.v and projector switching
The on screen display works very nicely easy to navigate.
The audio speaker calibration is quick and simple to setup. Many different options for speaker configuration.
It has all the options I wanted.
Dolby vision, atmos, pass through. Alexa, Google.

Bricked on first startup.

Hooked up this unit and on first startup it indicated a firmware update was available with the important features and bugs fixed. Attempted to apply the update over a physically-connected Ethernet cable (had issues with Denon in the past over WiFi) and the unit reported an update error (here we go again). Restarted unit and it wouldn't go past demanding the update be re-applied. Tried for over 2 hours over Ethernet and USB with different error codes reported. Ethernet cable was 100% good (worked with previous receiver and X-BOX). Help with the error codes (0-83 and 0-84) were very sparse in the support forums. Returned the unit.
In 2022 (entering 2023) I still can't believe that AV Receiver manufacturers haven't figured out a RELIABLE way to upgrade these things with a built-in rollback on a failed update.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Out of the box, the BD/DVD and the phone anolague connections were defective. For a $1000 plus machine, just unacceptable, plus all the time I spend setting g it all up. And having to tear it apart to return the item.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Right out of the box, the BD/DVD hdmi port didn't work, as well as the phone RVA connection.
For a $1000 plus receiver, just unacceptable. Plus the 2 hours it took me to set it up, and now have to tear apart and return..

Great receiver!

I bought this receiver from Best Buy in early April 23 and it has definitely exceeded my expectations in my close to 5 months of ownership. I wanted a receiver with 7 speaker capability with the latest audio and video features for under $1000 CAD. I have a LG C2 oled and a XBox Series X. Speakers are older, yet a quality combination of Mission, Energy, and in-wall Polk’s along with an older mid level 12 inch Velodyne subwoofer. The receiver replaced my almost 20 year old higher end Yamaha receiver that was still working however not able to process the latest audio and video tech. Set-up was quick and very easy. I think the dynamic and warm yet crisp audio tone surprised me the most. My Yamaha was in the 40 lb range and this unit is almost half the weight so I naturally thought the dynamics of my older much more expensive receiver would be much better. I was wrong and am very pleased with the audio performance of this receiver. The Dolby Atmos processing in my non Atmos speakers is excellent. For example in the Rally DLC in Forza Horizon 5 there are numerous races where a helicopter is flying overhead and providing route guidance. The overhead pounding of the helicopter blades moving around overhead in my room is incredibly accurate, realistic and simply amazing. My 5 months of ownership has provided a total trouble free and pleasant ownership experience Without question, I recommend this product. If anything, I think Pioneer should do a better job at marketing this receiver since I found reviews from trusted sources lacking. I believe this to be the underlying reason for the incredible sale prices that Best Buy provides on this unit from time to time. Definitely a 2 thumbs up, a well done Pioneer, and a thanks to Best Buy.

I have had this AVR for about 10 days and I am extremely pleased with it. Setup was very easy and I am very impressed with all the useful features. This unit replaced a 12 year old Pioneer Elite AVR. On this device I can see volume level and input/output info on the TV screen. On the old AVR I couldn't. This is a very useful upgrade. Great unit so far.
