My Timberline came with a defective ignitor two weeks ago and I still don’t have a replacement part. For a grill this expensive you would think there would some urgency to apologize and fix. There has been none.

Beat Expectations - Awesome Grill

We bought this in December 2022, ready to cook for our family's Christmas Eve dinner in subzero windchill temperatures. We upgraded from our Pro 575.
The grill held temperature fantastically with the cold temperatures in an uncovered deck. The meat and sweet potatoes were all cooked perfectly. We've used it again for several other meals (bison burgers, pot roast, porterhouse) and it maintains temperature, pellet level, and Meater signal perfectly.
We were skeptical after reading reviews, but we've had nothing but a great experience using the grill. We have not used the induction burner yet. We look forward to continue cooking more meals with it - it's our preferred cooking method for all meat.

Great initial experience

Aside from the laugh from "firmware updating" when I was wanting to cook my first steaks on day one, we have had a great experience. I was a little worried about some of the "not maintaining temp" posts. I've not experienced that, perhaps a 10-20 degree swing at first, and generally down to a 10 degree swing during my latest long cook.

I’ve owned Traegers for 20 years. This is the worst I have ever had. It catches fire constantly. It overheats or has completely uneven heat. I clean it constantly. The WiFi feature has never worked. I will go back to the basics after this complete waste of money.

Hi, and thanks for sharing your experience with the Traeger Timberline. Even though the basic functionality of most pellet grills is the same, there are a few things to get used to when going from the original style Traeger to something as new and advanced as the Timberline. While maintenance is certainly the single most common cause of grill fires on any type of outdoor grill, this doesn’t appear to be the case in your situation. With this eliminated, there’s only a few other possible reasons that fires might occur. One of them is putting aluminum foil or a liner on the drip tray. Due to the way that the new EZ Clean trays are designed, they do not require any kind of protective covering, while still being very easy to maintain, and using one can certainly result in a grill overheating, or on rare occasions, a grill fire. Another possibility is that the firepot is not completely seated at the bottom of the grill, with the right lip caught on the lower edge of the auger tube. This may cause the pellets to collect beneath the pot, where they can eventually ignite, creating more heat than expected. Additionally, if the grill did not go through the full shutdown on a previous cook, there could be excess pellets remaining in the firepot for the next run, creating a larger fire than usual. But as opposed to trying to work this out by yourself, please give Traeger Customer Service a call for assistance. One of our agents can check over everything with you, and maybe do a test run as well, likely having the grill working perfectly by the time you get off the phone.

Don't do it.

It's a Traeger. They are not reliable, the Wifire App connection is HORRIBLE and the overall quality is less than you'd expect. Rarely will it get to temperature in temps below 40. The screen shows 225 and a probe in the box shows 180 at best. I've had a Pro series and it was horrible to keep temp so they convinced me to buy a Timberline and it's the same.

Hi, and thank you for reviewing the Traeger Timberline. Although any outdoor grill will take a bit longer to reach temp in colder weather, the Timberline is a fully insulated grill. Because of this, once the goal temperature has been achieved, it will be easier to maintain, even as the mercury level drops. However, we really don’t expect meat probes to properly measure inside of the barrel when using them as a test. Even regular oven thermometers are not designed to take into consideration the unique environment that is inside of a pellet grill, which the internal thermocouple is specifically designed to do. If you want to do an accuracy test, the easiest way is to simply turn on your Timberline from a cold start and compare the initial reading to the ambient air temperature. If it is within a reasonable range, then the grill is working correctly. If it's over 20 degrees off from the start, then we’ll want to look into it further. This includes checking the tip of the thermocouple for damaged, and verifying that the red protective cap was removed before the first use. But if this does not seem to be the case, or you want some help with the diagnosis, please call us at 1-800-TRAEGER, and one of our agents will go over everything with you to make sure that your Timberline is running exactly the way if should be, which also includes addressing any concerns that you have with the WiFi feature as well.

Insulation for cold weather smoking

This Timberline grill was a gift of our children for our 50th anniversary. I wasn’t excited about the gift since we are empty nesters. I really like it and it is easy to operate. We made baby back pork ribs for Christmas Eve. They turned out great with 70 percent of the pellets remaining in the hopper. By the way, we live in North Dakota and the temp was -4 degrees and it preheated to 220 in under 20 minutes and held that temp with no problems. Delicious!

Have been very busy and unable to smoke any meat since my first review 20 days ago. Ribeye steaks. Set my cook temp to 450 degrees. Took about 15-20 minutes to reach that temp. I was very happy as she climbed right up. Yes, during the cook the temp moved back and forth from 460 degrees to 440 degrees. 12 minutes on each side and a perfect medium result which is what I wanted. Very happy with this new Smoker.

Got it for Christmas this year and love it. No issues at all. Don’t know why people say they can not link up to the WiFi just make sure you are close to it.
