[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Batteries don’t last a third of what they say. Can’t mow 8000 square feet with 3 batteries

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re sorry to hear the run time hasn’t met your needs. Several factors can affect battery life—dense or tall grass, hilly terrain, or grass over 4 inches all require more power and can shorten run time.

For best results, we recommend raising the cutting height and trimming no more than one-third of the grass length at a time, then waiting a couple of days before cutting again. Mowing when the grass is dry and walking at a steady pace will also help the blade work more efficiently. As your lawn becomes regularly maintained, you should see both cut quality and run time improve.

For an 8,000 sq. ft. lawn, you might also consider one of our Greenworks ride-on mowers, designed for larger areas and heavier cutting needs. We offer a range of options to suit different lawn sizes and conditions, and our team is happy to help you find the right fit. You can reach us via Live Chat on our website (www.greenworkstools.com) or by phone at 1-888-909-6757.
For a home with a lawn size of 8000 sq ft, you may want to consider one of our Greenworks ride-on mowers. These units are designed for lawns that require more heavy-duty cutting needs. We have a variety of options for a range of household lawn care needs. We hope the above information has been helpful. If you would like more detail on what units may be best suited for your needs, please contact us through Live chat direct on our site or by phone at 1-888-909-6757. We are here to help.

Almost perfect

I've had the mower for a year, first mower my son used to cut lawn, envisioned this extensive learning experience. Didn't happen, was so simple, safe and easy, the big 'experience' was over in 2 min. Now that we've used it through the season I can say its been very good. With a sharp blade it cuts and bags very nicely. I have one complaint that has become rather annoying over the year. It has an auto-adjusting speed. Low speed blade on light demand, auto-steps up to high speed when grass is thicker. This is useful to conserve battery life. One problem: on low speed, bagging/suction is rather weak. Insufficient, and there's no way to over-ride it. I sharpened blade to razor sharp, cut the grass so cleanly it didn't produce enough load to step speed up to high, leaving grass clippings behind. Requires going over cut paths more than once. If this one detail could be changed - have a manual over-ride - the mower would be great.
I am very happy with it, so easy to use, no thought about gas, oil, air filter, plug, nothing, just charge battery and cut grass. I really like the mower, just wish it had an over-ride for the self-adjusting blade speed.

Great Mower

I bought this mower to replace an old gas mower. It wasn't the first time I had tried replace the old mower. Twice before, the battery powered mowers just weren't satisfactory in terms of their cut quality and speed. I was a little worried that the same thing would be true with this mower. Not the case. This mower required very little set up and I am very pleased. It's quiet, doesn't spell as bunch of CO2 and does a great job. My lawn isn't huge, but I do mow it once a week or so when it's growing. This mower is particularly adept at mulching, which I really didn't expect from a battery powered mower. Greenworks hit one out of the park with this mower.

Puts the thrill into mowing

No noise. No vibration. No exhaust. Just now. The models are changing so rapidly now. More choices. More variations. My 80v model already has different wheel sizes. Different paint/color scheme. Even got a new lawn service so my grass would be thicker, greener and faster growing.......so I could mow more often!

3 Great Benefits For My Neighbors and 3 for me
on October 2, 2016

There are 6 great benefits:
1) With 2 batteries, you never run out of charge.
2) Only 60 pounds with 10 inch rear wheels. Easy to push and maneuver. Can store it on the wall.
3) Elimination of pollution from small gas engines that is about 50 times (50 times !) worse than gas cars.
4) In terms of energy (oil well/coal mine to mower blade), it is about 10 times more efficient.
5) In terms of CO2 (oil well/coal mine to mower blade), the electric mower is about 14 times better.
6) I have eliminated another carburetor from my shop. No filter maintenance. No oil changes. No checking of the oil level.
ONE: It comes with two 2 amp-hour batteries. Each lasts about 30 minutes. Since the battery recharge time is also 30 minutes, this means the first battery is ready to go when the second battery is depleted. I need about 70 minutes of battery to mow the lawn. When the 2nd battery was empty, the 1st battery was already recharged and ready to go. How long does the battery last? It’s an irrelevant question.
TWO: Weighing only 60 pounds including the battery and with 10 inch rear wheels. It is easy to push and maneuver. So I don’t miss the self-propelled feature of my previous gas mower. The lawn mower has two speeds for the blade. When the lawn is light it operates at the lower motor speed. When the grass gets heavier and the mower senses the motor speed has dropped below a certain threshold, it kicks into the higher speed. It has one lever to change the height of the mower deck. It is very easy to adjust. The handle adjustments work well for my height of 6’-3”.
THREE: One hour of gas-powered lawn mowing produces as much pollution as four hours of driving a car. The average car burns about 12 gallons in 4 hours. So a gas mower is about 50 times worse than a car on a per-gallon basis. I mow my yard about 20 times a year. So I have just eliminated the pollution equivalent of 240 gallons of gasoline per year!
FOUR: I needed about 0.4 kWh (400 watt-hours) to mow the yard, instead of a quart of gasoline. In terms of energy, I used 1,350 Btuh instead of 28,500 Btuh. That’s right. The electric lawn mower engine is 20 times more efficient than the gas engine. Since power companies are around 35% efficient and since refineries (including the extraction process) are only 75% efficient, it’s more correct to say I used 4000 Btuh instead of 38000 Btuh. Still around a factor of 10.
FIVE: I am on XCel Energy’s Windsource program. Thus I am using a zero-carbon lawnmower and have eliminated 7 pounds of CO2 every time I mow the yard . Even using Xcel’s standard energy mix, the lawn mower only generates about one-half pound of CO2. So it is 14x better.
SIX) No maintenance of a small engine. Yahoo!!
My only wish list item would be fora left-side discharge chute that can be attached to the rear bagger outlet. I hope GreenWorks has a 2-stage snowblower in the near future.

Poor Quality Prevents Assembly
on April 15, 2021

I'm reading the reviews of other users and wishing I could get as far as testing the mower. My unit came with the plastic handle knobs so poorly manufactured that the upper handle assembly cannot be attached to the mower at all. Overall the build quality is very poor compared to gas mowers in the same price range. My suggestion is to build a better mower and charge more for it (think Tesla), the bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low cost is forgotten.

Not perfect, but still great

So this is probably the best battery-powered lawn mower one can buy today: it cuts through thick grass, would strongly recommend the 80V battery for larger yards. However, the unit is pretty heavy for a push mower so if you need to use it on slopes, it may be a challenge. The side piece that directs the mulch comes off very easily, which is also not good.
