Beautiful historical doll!

She’s beautiful and it was perfect timing, as my older daughter was learning about her in class during a unit on Women’s history! Her clothing and accessories are well made. I am so happy for my girls to play with a doll of such a trail blazing and influential woman!

Great tribute doll, very well done

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great idea with some Informative facts but doesn’t really attract a child’s attention as a toy. It comes across as something you would display more than something you would play with. I’m glad that I was able to explain the history behind Ida B. Wells to my daughter but she didn’t seem overly interested In actually playing with it.

Trendy baby hair detracts from historical figure

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the latest in Mattel's Inspiring Women Line. I liked the choice of Ida B Wells, who is a very inspiring women of historical greatness. Her clothing was quite appropriate, with a high-necked black gown and white lace collar that was typical of the late Victorian era. The box interior picture and newspaper detail are very appealing for collectors.
The one thing I disliked about the doll, and it was enough to make me not like it, was the inclusion of drawn-on "baby hair." Baby hair is a modern trend that is popular in the Black community. I usually like it when Mattel gives their dolls of color baby hairs. But it's not appropriate for Ida B Wells, because it is ahistorical. I also disliked the placement of shadows on her face, which were drawn on to replicate the lighting in the photograph. They did not look very life-like.
I hope the next historical woman of color in the Inspiring Women line will have historically accurate hair, and be drawn with the features of a living person, rather than a photograph.
This would be a nice gift for an older child who is interested in history. Especially Black history. Or even an adult!

More of a Display Than Play

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Much to my surprise, my 4 year old daughter wanted very little to do with the Ida B. Wells doll. She loves playing with dolls and I was excited for her to have an "inspirational" doll to add to her collection. She only played with Ida B. Wells once and seemed rather frustrated with the podium as well as the paper that came in Ida's hands. I have to note that while the doll itself is very flexible, the long dress does little for showing that. The doll will be on display more than it will be used for play.

A must have !!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This doll is a must have. My daughter loved it, and also taught her so much about who this woman was. The dress and boots were great quality like always. Very detailed. The hair, and facial features look very realistic, and my daughter was happy about it. It also comes with a stand and the hands are articulated. The packaging was great, and the box didn’t come damaged. My daughter is planning on keeping this one on her stand. Great Barbie. Good job Mattel!!!

The best Amazing inspirational doll ever play with

Better out of the Box!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The doll looks even better out of the box! There are so many small details on her dress that are easy to miss. The fabric is heavy with a black striped weave and there is lace at her hem. I love the black boots underneath her dress, but wish the doll was wearing tights or other undergarments that were period appropriate. She is also fully jointed, which one would hope for the price point, and comes with a small newspaper that I am leaving in its plastic cover since it is pretty delicate. Her hairstyle looks realistic and matches photos of Ida B. Well’s hairstyle almost exactly. My preschool age daughter was excited to play with her and immediately decided she was a teacher. Ida has since been instructing all her other dolls. While my daughter is still a bit young to fully understand that this doll was made to look like a real person who lived some time ago, l appreciate that this doll, like others in the series, can help teach my daughter about all the amazing women in history, especially women of color.
