Best Sports Watch EVER
on April 23, 2023

It's hard to describe how good this watch is, and I have owned several different brands. The battery is unbelievable for a sports watch, the screen is beautiful and responsive. Maps are great, navigation is simple and it has more information than most will ever use. I was hesitant due to cost but now have no regrets or concerns at all.

I love this watch with the new amazing screen. The battery life is incredible. I run almost 6 miles everyday and don't have to charge it very often.

Everything I didn't realize I needed in a watch

Exceptional watch. The screen is beautiful, GPS is dead-on accurate on my runs. The only downside is the titanium bezel scuffs fairly easily. However, I bought a cheap titanium refinishing pad that buffs out the scuffs perfectly. Great watch, highly recommend.

Epix Gen 2 vs Fenix 7/Forerunner 955
on March 17, 2023

At purchase I narrowed my decision to the Fenix 7/Epix Gen 2/Forerunner 945 (the 955 had not been released yet). I chose the Fenix/Epix series for the more robust construction and additional outdoor/adventure features. After narrowing to the Fenix 7 /Epix Gen 2 the deciding factor for me at purchase was using the maps on the units side by side in store. The OLED screen on the EPIX was so much more detailed when compared to the Fenix's MIPS display, however in practice I rarely use the maps on the watch.
Ironically, the display has been one of my biggest complaints with the watch as I have found the OLED screen to be too bright even at the lowest dimming level (they only offer 3 brightness levels on the EPIX currently). You can set the screen to dim and eventually turn off and back on when you raise your wrist, but I prefer always on and a bit dimmer like the Fenix 7. I've found changing the watch face to something a little duller lessens my sensitivity to this, but does still bother me. I hope that future software updates will allow for additional dimming levels beyond the current 3 that are offered. The Fenix line currently offers adjustment from 0-100% in 10% increments for normal use and 5% increments in sleep mode. Having 1/3 2/3 and 100% on for the EPIX Gen 2 seems like low hanging fruit to improve upon with a software update.
For those trying to decide between the Epix and Fenix line - ask yourself how often you will actually use the maps on your wrist. Even when I use my Garmin Edge 830 bike computer I tend to pull my phone out and look at the map on it when I'm navigating. The larger more reactive screen on your phone is much easier to use than a bike computer screen, or tiny watch. I really like my Epix Gen 2 - and could love it if they add some additional dimming options, but I think I would have been just as happy with the Fenix 7. Both are great watches.

Great watch for adventures!

This watch is feature packed, and has served me very well in all my outdoor adventures so far - MTB, Skiing (in-and-out of bounds), trail running, hiking, kayaking, and climbing. As much as I love the training features, I've really appreciated the sleep analytics it provides! Overall, the sleep score and body battery have been pretty spot-on for me, and have allowed me to better tailor my training to my recovery.
This product is great for both beginners and advanced outdoor users. If you are looking for a watch that does it all, look no further!

Let it be known, I'm a farily heavy Apple product uses as well as my entire family/extended family. I've ran the gauntlet of various Apple watch models and they either failed randomly after months of use or my last one took a dip in the ocean while offshore diving in Hawaii. RIP wrist hugger, I would say you will be missed but someone new came into my life and made me see all I had been missing out on.
Enter the Epix 2! Right out of the box it is stunning with its rugged yet refined appearance. The device is super intuitive and rich with a seamingly endless amount of data. This is something where the more you use it and figure out all the bonus features where it truly shines. Having something on me that thrives at tracking my physical performance while enhancing my adventerous side is fantastic. From nautical charts to region specific hiking trails or ski slopes, it has you covered. You can sync up heart rate moniters, biking pedals, track running shoes and equipment, and so much more! If you are a data lover, this is exactly what you want because it even gives you tailored morining reports! When wearing my Apple I always felt like I had to baby it and have in the back of my mind that it was delicate. The Garmin is a tank that practically asks for punishment while lauging all the way.
Coming from the Apple side I can say that the app store is a bit clunky and constantly makes me feel cringy with how bare bones it is, but that aside I truly love the connect app. If you are on the fence between the two, pull the trigger on this bad boy!

This watch is likely the last one you'll need for a very long time. It's incredibly accurate in all metrics as is expected in any Garmin, but the customization abilities for each activity really set this watch apart from everything else. It's literally a Fenix 7 but with an amazing AMOLED display, and once you use this display you'll never want to go back.
