Great battery life - does everything I need it to and nothing I don't. I like that it's not a Phone for my Wrist.

Huge Improvement over Garmin Instinct
on June 5, 2024
Posted by: Jared N
I like Garmin watches and have used the Garmin Instinct for several years now. The Epix is a huge improvement. Screen is so much nicer, battery life is better, tracking info is way more accurate.
I have been pretty disappointed with the Instinct when it comes to heart rate monitoring and some of the basic functions. It still works fine as a wrist watch, GPS tracking, and receiving notifications but have never been satisfied with heart rate and bio tracking.
Today I wore both the Instinct and Epix carrying a 50lb pack up a 1000ft vertical climb. Heart rate on the Instinct was showing just over 100 bpm when the Epix was showing 150 up to 183 which was way more accurate.
I debated between the 47mm and larger size but I am glad I went with the 47mm. It is still larger than the instinct but not too big. Overall I am very happy with this watch.

Have had to replace the watch twice now. Would not recommend surfing with it.

Worked great for me backpacking
on June 2, 2024

The Garmin Epix Gen 2 worked great on my backpacking trip in Killarney Canada. It was easy to update the preloaded maps, simple to import GPX routes I created on another platform and helped a ton during the actual hike. Was easy to just glance at the watch for updates on progress on the route and had lots of additional info if so desired (overall elevation profile, distance to go, etc.)
If you're familiar with using apps on your phone for navigation the transition to the watch is pretty straightforward, with a terminology learning curve (routes = courses in Garmin lingo).

This is a great watch. Best golf app of any I have ever used. Sleep info has been helpful in planning my days.

Fantastic watch but a problem with the Start/Stop. EPIX Pro > EPIX
on May 26, 2024

First off, Garmin's warranty and support is world class. I went through two EPIX 2 Sapphire watches due to flooding of the case during Kiteboard/WingFoil activities. Both are "high speed water activities" which the standard EPIX should withstand at the 10 ATM rating. I called Garmin and I received replacement watch within days. After flooding the second watch the Garmin rep recommended upgrading to the EPIX Pro due to the different build on the Start/Stop button. Not everyone explores the limits of their equipment but if you do, I recommend spending the extra money on the EPIX Pro.
The EPIX and EPIX Pro are functional the same watch and the touch screen is a great upgrade from my last watch, Garmin 945, which served me reliably for five and a half years. The light on the Pro is a funny addition but has turned out to be incredibly useful. Like the flashlight on your phone but always connected to your wrist. That small feature has been really useful during travels walking around dark unfamiliar hotel rooms when trying not to wake the family.
