I use Connect IQ and Face It to customize watch faces. I am disappointed that I cannot download multiple customized watch faces to my Garmin. I hate to have my cell phone with me all the time and have to "install" a different customized face. I have hiked and skied in areas with no cell service and would like to have everything regarding my garmin on my watch. No need to carry a phone if it doesn't work where you are.

A bit thick and heavy but nice features
on January 27, 2025

I have had several Garmin devices, most recently the Vivoactive 4 and Venu 3. I bought the Epix Gen 2 due to a great sale. The Venu 3 has several advantages: larger display, higher resolution, ECG, can answer phone calls, thinner and lighter. Despite this I found that the swim and golf apps did not work as well as the Vivoactive 4 The Epix is thicker and heavier but has a great battery life. The apps provide more depth and detail. The Swim app is easy to use and has more data and options. The golf app is great with courses saved on the watch and many more options while playing

A Fenix 7 with AMOLED
on January 29, 2025

I already have a Fenix 7, and have enjoyed it for over 2 years. I also have a Venu 2 Plus that I've owned for about the same time. I wore the Venu most of the time primarily for the AMOLED screen as it looks much better in most lighting conditions. I used the Fenix 7 for any outdoor activities and for its extra capabilities. I wasn't looking for another Garmin watch. But then I stumbled on this smashing deal for an Epix Gen 2 Sapphire. At such a great price, I could not pass it up. It blends the best of the Venu and Fenix into a single watch. Perfect. I just don't know what to do with the old ones :-)

Different then an Apple watch
on January 29, 2025

Coming from an Apple Watch 7 I got the Epix as I was getting more serious and training for a half marathon. I am a beginner.
The Epix is great for overall health tracking, I find the training readiness, body battery, sleep analysis and obviously the run tracking / Garmin coach to be great and why I got the watch. Battery life is great too where you can go easily a week without worrying about charging.
However since it is more ‘customizable’ it’s not as intuitive and simple to use as an Apple Watch. The amount of times getting lost in the menus and trying to find something is hard. Overtime you will get used to it I’m sure but out the box it’s confusing. There often times 2-3 ways you can get to the same setting which is bad. It is also laggy and I have been able to crash the watch simply by changing my targets from pace to heart rate. In addition I have the old gen heart rate monitor and not sure if it’s the software or the sensor but at times it can be completely wrong. Im running at 90% effort and it showing a 120bpm (I wish I was that fit) when it should be 150+. I’ve read the tips o placement and keeping it clean but I never had to do that with my Apple Watch and it seems way my accurate with how I felt.
Soo if could do it again, I would probably stick with the Apple Watch as it has more benefits with my iPhone and I find it easier to use. I would then use the money to get a subscription to other health/apps to replicate the features that come with the Garmin.

Provides Great Motivation to Exercise
on January 30, 2025

I enjoy walking for exercise. The Epix Gen 2 sets a daily step goal for me. This is beneficial because it provides extra motivation to walk to meet the daily goal. This watch is loaded with features I have not even tapped into yet. I have had the watch less than a month, and I already love it.

Awesome balance of features and price
on January 31, 2025

I bought this watch after watching a review on the Fenix 8 where the reviewer mentioned this watch was on sale for a great price if the Fenix 8 is out of your price range.
Setup was easy. I had problems figuring out how to download the maps, but I figured it out (don’t stop the map download in the middle of downloading). The features are awesome! The Epix really is a great watch.
