Garmin vs. Garmin Day Two wearing the EPIX 2 and the Fēnix 7X
‘Twas the year 2005 when I began running with my first Garmin wearable, a ForeRunner. And an oversized rectangle dwarfed my left wrist for over 800 miles. Yes, it connected chest strap HR via ANT technology and had a GPS chip inside that coordinated three satellites providing a 40-foot accuracy position. It was a rad watch that was even rechargeable! After adding an Apple iPod Shuffle (the size of a package of gum) I had the trifecta for runners: 1. Watch with GPS 2. HR chest strap 3. MP3 player
Timeline of high-end wearables:
Garmin Fēnix 6X pro-solar 2021 to 2022 (07/11/2021 to be precise) Garmin Enduro 2021 Garmin Tactix Delta Solar 2021 Garmin Fēnix 7X sapphire solar 2022 to 2023 Garmin EPIX 2 - first time wearing it is now in March 2023
And now, present day, March 10, 2023, and Day 607 wearing a combination of the above at least once per week. Yeah, it sure is fabulous what Garmin, and a few other organizations, have done over the past decades. These wearables have become smaller, action/tech packed more durability, music storage, onboard maps, Bluetooth, wrist HR, and weeks of battery life!
The Question Do I enjoy wearing the EPIX 2.0 enough to recommend you buy one this month? Yes, for several reasons; first, the text is difficult to read through the Garmin PowerGlass/sapphire crystal screen lens on other Garmin models and the content is too dark. Second, I had a difficult time reading my health metrics, and the time of day, with the Tactix Delta. Third, it looks pretty on the wrist. And years after wearing these ultra-smart timepieces connected to everything and yet still wireless, oh man it is freedom. Have you ever tried to go running with those silly cables connected to your Walkman, CD Player in your backpack, or just short headphone cables connected to your Apple iPhone 3G? Yeah, it is a crappy method of working out. Wireless audio is the best and I am glad Samsung, Apple, Amazfit, Polar, Garmin, and others have figured out the awesomeness of “music storage” and playlist navigation within a few clicks. Yes, I do recommend you buy an EPIX 2 over any Fēnix 7 series, Enduro, or Tactix.
The Screen
The AMOLED graphics with 416 x 416 pixel density looks amazing. Yes, it comes with native AOD (always-on display) so no wrist movements in that three-hour meeting just to see the time of day. If a timepiece lacks AOD, nope, I dislike it from day one. The Fēnix 7X series still ships with the MIP (sunlight-visible, transflective memory-in-pixel) screen tech and only 280 x 280 pixel resolution. I’ll have a video out soon comparing them side-by-side for over eight minutes indoors & outside. The short version is this: the EPIX looks better, it is easier to read, and the screen graphics/text are crisper, brighter, and just more fun to look at during the 14-day battery lifespan.
Battery Life With AOD (always-on display) enabled I am getting a solid 5 to 7 days. If I turn off AOD and go back to the year 2010 and use raise-to-wake technology I can easily reach 12 to 17 days of battery life. Yes, 17x greater than the Apple Watch 8 - wahoo!
What’s different about the EPIX 2.0 or is it just new? The training aspect - Garmin added another 1,888 lines of code for humans that need that extra oomph of feedback, guidance, and information about how they are training. I did a treadmill workout last night. I'm curious, can you tell the difference? Treadmill Test #0211 - Garmin vs. Garmin
1. Garmin Fēnix 7X (carbon gray DLC titanium & sapphire solar edition) was worn on my left wrist for nearly two miles of walking, jogging, and sprints at 12 km per hour https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/10664813962
2. Garmin EPIX 2 (slate steel) - on my right wrist https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/10664811538
Indoor dreadmill running with six wearable pieces of smart jewelry... 1. Garmin Fenix 7X (left wrist) 2. EPIX 2 (right wrist) 3. Circular Ring (right index) 4. ŌURA Ring gen2 - right ring 5. ŌURA Ring gen3 (silver) right thumb 6. ŌURA Ring gen3 (slate) left index
I hope you liked the sharing of real-time data for it gives someone new to Garmin a taste of the reporting aspect provided. In short, if you want a smaller version of a Fēnix 7 series smartwatch and prefer a screen that is more beautiful than an Apple Watch 8 or the Galaxy Watch5 Pro, yes, upgrade to the EPIX 2. Now, if you already own a Garmin Fēnix 6 or 7 series, nope, you’re not going to love the EPIX that much more. If you have my eyesight you just might, for I am going to sell my Fēnix 7X sapphire solar next month after I am done comparing the EPIX to the Fēnix for my Social Media Realm and to satisfy my own curiosity. I just love the watch faces I am used for the past two years, but with a crisper AMOLED screen, always-on-display, and weeks of battery life to boot! Thank you for reading and for clicking on by.
Sincerely, Pietro Herget

I truly love reading through my “Morning Report” on a wearable.
Yes, I took both of these lovely pieces of jewelry into the bathtub with me to measure the accuracy of the infamous “Health SnapShot” widget.
I could not resist using my OnePlus 9 Pro monochrome camera to snap a few photos of this gorgeous timepiece with an AMOLED screen.
Pretty much the same image as before, but with a splash of colors
And finally, a photograph taken by a friend of mind, you know you are and thank you for sharing your talents. I went on a walk with both the Fēnix 7X and the newly acquired EPIX 2.0

The EPIX 2.0 (yes, a new watch series from Garmin) and I wanted it back in 2021, but had to pass. Nearly a full year after the release of version 1.0 of this new gadget and I was able to get one, finally. The question I wanted to ask is this: What is different about the EPIX 2 if you already own a Garmin Fēnix 7X or another Fēnix 6 series smartwatch? 1. AMOLED screen 2. AOD (always-on screen) to display 416 x 416 pixels instead of 280 3. Health Metrics - it appears to track everything the Fenix 6X or & 7X did over the past two years. 4. Recover, and this is where the thin line of differences is found. The beloved Fēnix series gives more accurate recovery time. And that is all I know thus far on Day 23 of wearing the EPIX 2nd gen timepiece. I hope this short video answered a few questions and if not, yes, I plan to create another, longer & more detailed video after a few more weeks pass and more tough workouts happen on both the Fēnix 7X & its twin, the EPIX 2. Thanks you for clicking on by and remember, Numbers mean something and nothing at all - Goodbye. . .

Good at most things

I’m happy with it. It’s not as user friendly as other smart watches but it’s tough as nails and does what I need my smartwatch to do. The screen resolution is top notch and it has some really good features in it. Don’t expect your Epix to do all the things an Apple Watch does. But what the epix does do, it does excellent

I’ve had my Epix Gen 2 for about three weeks now, and i am thrilled. The amount of features and the seeming accuracy of many of the results are terrific. Anxious to hit the trials and have it linked to all of my bikes. Love the display!

Awesome features, absolutely love the touch screen

I’ve had this about 2 weeks and absolutely love it, the features are easy to navigate, touch screen works flawlessly and everything has been accurate so far. My only complaint I guess would be , you cant use as a phone or at least use it to answer a txt message. Other than that I would recommend it for anyone, wether it’s for business, casual, work , fun or anything outdoors related.

Great Screen and Useful Features for Novice Runner

Have enjoyed my Epix Gen2 Sapphire which was a nice overdue upgrade from my Fenix 3HR Sapphire. The screen is fantastic and I also find myself using the touchscreen alot. Battery life has also been surprisingly great. Love listening to music (Spotify) and leaving my phone at home. Sleep and training readiness data this watch provides is very helpful. Also, just started started using the Garmin Coach feature and like it. All and all excellent upgrade and look forward to doing more research on how it can help me complete my first marathon!
