So far, so good with this grill. I've smoked some ribs low & slow, roasted a chicken and made a bunch of wings.
Everything has worked fine. The pellets kept feeding, the app worked great and the grill hasn't caught on fire.
It seems Weber has got this grill straightened out following their epic face-plant of a product launch.
I can see how the grease management system does have some issues. Ash blows out of the fire pot and piles up in the bottom, right where the grease is supposed to drain.
I've been sidestepping this issue by just sticking a piece of foil with the edges folded up under the grates to catch the drippings.
As for the things that need improvement:
1. The casters need to be larger and made of a softer material less likely to skid backwards when you open the lid.
2. It needs a shelf between the legs for pellets or whatever.
3. The fan is loud and blows ash everywhere.
4. I'd like a pass through for the temp probe leads. Running them out through the top of the lid works, but every time you open the lid the wires fall down.
So with that said, I like this grill and recommended it!
After reading about some people having the problems that they were with the smokefire, I was kinda worried about getting one. My wife and I decided to go for it and absolutely love it. It has not given us any problems what so ever. The food comes out absolutely perfect. We could not be happier. We have had many Weber grills for the last 40 yrs and have been very happy with all of the Weber products and the customer service is top notch. Thank You Weber. Keep up the good work
Love it so far. I’ve had zero issues with the 2nd gen. It’s easy to operate, holds its temp perfectly, and the integrated multi-food probe hub is fantastic. In terms of maintenance, one needs to be sure to clean it after each cook. It takes longer than my kettle to clean, but still only talking 10 mins or so. Given all that it offers, pretty reasonable trade-off. My longest cook so far was a 10hr pork shoulder. Temp held the entire time (filled hopper once) and pork was spot on.
Excellent grill. Controlled fire/smoke depending on use. Held 15lb brisket, water tray, & 30 wings - for size reference. Bought smaller size for quicker sear/fire pre-heating to use more frequently (550 in 10mins). Sear is also an amazing feature and reminiscent of my father’s old Weber kettle growing up with the flames. This is a laptop that smokes meat. Smoke flavor has impressed crowds with only salt and pepper. Keep it clean.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love it. I was skeptical based on the reviews of the 1st gen, but all of the updates that they made to the 2nd Gen have been amazing. Everything I have tried so far has turned out great and the electronics have been perfect. Most of the issues I see from people I think could be taken care of by cleaning properly and going through a "checklist" every time you are about to cook to make sure everything is ready to go.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was a little concerned initially when I saw some of the reviews on the Smokefire grills. I am happy to report that it has performed flawlessly. I have had success with beef, pork, chicken and fish.
