So far I have used my EX4 pellet grill twice. I have had zero problems with it so far. I am learning to turn it on about 20 minutes before I start using it which is about 10 minutes longer than the Genesis 1000 I have had for over 20 years. So far that is the only challenge. I smoked a pork butt and some ribs, using a probe on each, and everything worked great! My last smoker was a gas powered vertical model, and it had a very accurate precision burner. The EX4 seems to be every bit as accurate according to an external temp unit I am using to compare temps.
I absolutely love this smoker. This is the 4th Weber that I own and it lives up to Weber’s quality. It was easy to assemble and simplifies the smoking process. Have cooked 3 times on it, the best was ribs for Father’s Day.
The Surefire is a delight to use. Set the temp, any desired alarms, and walk away. Perfect control, perfect smoke every time. The app needs more development to match all the features of the controller on the grill, but works very well. The Bluetooth connection reaches around 300'.
I'm thrilled with my Surefire, just as I am with my Weber Summit gas grill.
Fit and finish were great. For the price, it is superior to everything else I looked at. But the grill has some serious drawbacks. The hopper seems to have issues with voids developing. Then the flame goes out. The auger design and how it feeds isn’t thought out to well. The auger tube is above the fire pot. The pellets tend to start to smoke inside the tube sending smoke back through the hopper. Finally, temp control was erratic. Was going to take a couple of weeks to get it repaired. Sadly didn’t have time to wait for a tech because my time frame to return would have been expiring as it got repaired. I decided not to roll the dice and return. Maybe a I got a lemon but I see many others with similar problems. Hey Weber! The feed tube needs to be at the bottom where EVERYONE else has theirs to keep the heat off it.
Weber customer service was great but they can’t fix a design that seems to have a flaw in how it feeds pellets. Love Weber stuff (all my grills have been Weber for years) and would try it again once they fix the auger. But for now, too much money to try it out again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello, thank you for being a long-time Weber fan! We are so sorry to hear that your experience did not match your expectations. We would not expect issues on the auger or hopper on our 2nd generation model. We listen to our fans just like you to help enhance the grilling experience. We are sorry to hear that you returned your grill. We will surely pass your feedback along to our design team. Thanks!
Great unit with quick heat up and controlled throughout the entire space Love the second level grill. the exterior is so easy to keep clear and looks great. The first month has been a number of different items to cook, all coming out tasty.
