I bought the gen2 EX4 just before Christmas. So far I have smoked ribs, burnt end pork belly, prime rib roast. Also have seared steak twice. The assembly process went together pretty smoothly - there we a couple of screws where the plates didn't seem to align so they are not in all the way - but otherwise took a couple of hours and worked the 1st time I fired it up. I haven't had any issues yet, but it has only been a month. My first seared steak went fantastic and tasted great. The best smoked was the rib roast which I used smokeboost for 2 hours - probably had more of smoky flavor than anything I ever cooked. I was used to the smoky mountain smoker where you use a water filled container. I have had trouble using the wet smoke kit and getting the bark that I would like. I gave up on it with the pork belly and finished the cook without it - turned out great but ended up with a grease fire on my next cook (which was another seared steak). It burned out one of the temperature probes. Overall it has met my expectations - no controller problems, heats up to temp within 15-20 mins even during the winter, no hopper jams, easy to program and track. I would recommend it.
So far so good! I did have a flame out issue but I believe that could have been prevented and more user error. Always check the burn pot when cleaning for daily maintenance. I did not see it in the listed places to clean each time in the manual but I now know better. I did a smoke boost for 2 hours and the burn pot was clogged with debris from a previous cook.
Having completed multiple cooks I haven’t had any issues and the grill has worked great. Being a long time Weber charcoal and propane grill the quality is on par. It is a WiFi pellet grill which all have some quirks. They have ash, temperature isn’t perfect across the grill, it prefers the Weber pellets vs others. App works pretty well. It’s not perfect but it’s a good helper. If you have realistic expectations you will be very happy with this grill as am I.
I’m so happy with this grill Weber really does a good job engineering and the quality of this product. Easy to assemble and was cooking on it in about an hour
I’m a convert. I’d been wary of pellet grills but I’m so head-over-heels in love with this thing. It makes everything delicious and easy. It’s been perfect so far, turning out delicious food whether it’s low-and-slow or hot-and-fast.
Setup was easy, operation is a snap. Everything works as it should. I’m in love
After a harsh initial release, weber listened to its customer's and made adjustments and within a year's time I think closed the gap on some of the longer in the tooth pellet grills.
