I’ve done a few cooks on my new Smokefire EX6, pork chops, pork ribs and a pork butt. The food has come out good but I do have a couple of small criticisms. First, my first long cook (ribs) was delayed 30 mins because a software update. I started the grill at the controller and it came up to temp. I then started the app to monitor the temps and it said that it was downloading a software update and I started loosing temp. I had to wait for the update to complete and then do a shutdown. This delayed me putting on the meat for over 30 mins. I would like to see a warning or pop up asking if I want to update now or wait until later. I would have hated if this happened after I had the meat on the grill. Second, I am very familiar with PIDs and how they work. I noticed that when the grill reaches its set point the displayed temp stays on that number the entire cook. I understand that most people like to see this however if you know anything on how grills and heat work, this is not the case, the temperature fluctuates throughout the cook. I also use a separate thermocouple to monitor the temps. I would like (or have the option) to see the actual temperature and not what you think people want to see. Just seems dishonest to me.
I am enjoying the grill and I’m looking forward to doing more cooks.
After many frustrating years of messing with an EGG smoker I sold it and purchased the SmokeFire by Weber. Smoking is now Fun again. Instructions are Easy, set the dials when the temperature reaches your target, put the recipe on the grill and shut the lid and relax. When the console tells you the recipe is finished take it off and enjoy the taste of great food. Your guest and family will be WOWED!
Weber has put some magic in how these Smokefire’s work. It makes constant smoke, even at or above 300 degreees where other pellet grills would be making none. The direct smoke coming up through the flavorizer bars makes tremendously good flavored food. Had switched to gravity grills, but came back to a smokefire due to the ability and ease of use. All of these cookers have a learning curve, to know their quirks, but once you sort that out, you can be making amazing eats. Highly recommend!
