ASUS works in resolving internal internet signals throughout the house. The instructions need to be clear on whether the original modem is to be removed OR be connected to the ASUS unit to become another modem along with the second unit being the node.

Tried another mesh system and nothing but problems with connections and speed. The ZenWiFi XD6 is great ! Easy to set-up. It is a bit weird that the two units needed to be next to each other to set-up but I moved them after set-up with no problems. Liked the parent controls and web access to system. They have an app but not as useful and no information on screens. One nice feature is that you can assign separate channels for quest network (2.4/5 GHz). This is very handy when setting up older devices like camaras, which only operate on 2.4 GHz. The speeds were solid. I check them at the devices and the router and no differences. I would recommend the router and buy ASUS again.

I had one hiccup so far that required multiple factory resets and firmware updates via restoration mode on one of the nodes. It was stuck in a reboot cycle. Very frustrating but it's been great since then and provides much better coverage and control than the router that was provided by my ISP.

I attempted to use a pair of the zd6's to mesh with my RT-AX86U Pro router however I have discovered a firmware incompatibility issue between the classes of devices - preventing the XD6 from broadcasting and connecting to my smart devices. They are useless for this purpose at this time. Will ASUS update the firmware on the XD6 soon so these different types of devices can be used together in a mesh??
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The ZenWiFi XD6 is compatible with the RT-AX86U Pro via ASUS AiMesh. Both devices support AiMesh 2.0, allowing for a seamless, unified network name (SSID) throughout the home..The RT-AX86U Pro should act as the main router connected to the modem, while the XD6 acts as an AiMesh node. To resolve the problem, verify if the router’s security settings matches with your ISP’s modem credentials, verify if the PC or device connecting to the router is working properly and within range to the router, the router is within 30 feet to the ISP's modem, if not wired with a network cable, and ISP's internet service or connection is working properly or stable. Also, try connecting your devices manually to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz if "Smart Connect" was disabled. Additionally, we recommend updating the Mesh router firmware if it is running with an older version. Firmware is available for download at: https://www.asus.com/us/networking-iot-servers/whole-home-mesh-wifi-system/zenwifi-wifi-systems/asus-zenwifi-xd6/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=ASUS-ZenWiFi-XD6.
