Much better than the original version, just one minor issue
on May 23, 2021

The new Pro Pad is WAY better than the original version, which lacked rigidity and I found was always flopping over and not really doing the job right. The one thing I think is a miss on the new Pro Pad is the top corners. I find when I use them behind a shoulder strap to stabilize a large camera set up or binoculars, the top corners dig into me as I move around. If they were a little better rounded, I think it would make this set up far more comfortable. I almost took a star off for that issue, but decided it wasn't quite a star killer. Maybe a half-star killer.

Helps a ton!

I bought this a few months ago and I have used it in several ways and situations, and it's helped out a lot. I've used it on my belt loop with a Capture Clip and Lens Kit, which makes a huge difference. Without the Pro Pad, I would not be comfortable carrying a 70-200 on the Lens Kit and Capture Clip on my belt loop. But with the Pro Pad, it is comfortable and secure! Also, I've mounted my Canon 5D Mark III (not a very small camera) with a 16-35mm lens to my backpack strap with the Capture Clip, and putting the pro pad under the strap with the capture clip makes a huge difference. It does not rub into my shoulder or wiggle around nearly as much. It's just more secure and more comfortable! I love it!

If you have a Capture and a belt, you want this
on May 17, 2020

If you have the capture clip and you wear a belt, you want this. If you have the capture V3 you must use this newer version of the pad. If you have the older clip, the new pad will work fine with it. I have both and the new one is easier to see how to set up right from the start. it's smaller, sleeker and looks more refined. I bought it because I picked up the new clip and had already heard that my old pad wouldn't work. I bought them together because I new I'd want it. My initial reaction when I received it was, this seems a little over priced. I thought the materials felt cheap compared to the original. Now, after a lot of use, I realize that impression was wrong. It's well made and holds up. I think it should also be available in a kit (pad, capture and plate). If someone wants a make the commitment to go all in, they get a little break.

Works great

I use it with the Lens Kit, a 70-200mm 2.8 and a 24-70mm 2.8 but I've had my Tamron 150-600mm on there and it can handle it fine. I probably wouldn't want to walk around much with that sucker on my side, but if you need to change a lens fast for a shot or you're staying stationary where you're at, it would still work great. Walking around with a 70-200mm on there, no problem. Make sure to play with where it sits on the side of your body so that it's not hitting you while you walk.

Verified Purchase:Yes
I have been looking for a product like this for a long time. I needed a way to carry one of my DSLRs conveniently while being able to have quick access. I took the Pro Pad with me on my recent trip to N. CA for landscape photography. I connected the Pro Pad to my belt and felt secure hanging my Sony A7RIV and my heavy 16-35 F2.8 lense at my side. I hiked several canyons in Big Sur and traversed rocks along the rocky coast getting the photos I was looking for. The Pro Pad worked perfectly giving me the confidence to use it on my future photo adventures.

Great With the Capture Clip

I purchased this in November 2021 to go with the Capture Clip V3. My intended use for this was with my walkabout camera, an Olympus OM-D E-M1 II, and the pairing of the Pro Pad and the Capture Clip works like a charm. It supports the camera well and does exactly what I hoped.

Enhances comfort of Capture
on August 28, 2022

Having Capture on the belt is extremely convenient, but heavier camera+lens combo causes the belt to rotate and the bottom end of the Clip to start digging into the side of my body. The Pro Pad greatly enhances comfort with heavier cameras. I would say even medium set-up would benefit from the increased comfort. And because Capture is connected to the Pro Pad, putting the Pro Pad + Capture on my belt is easier and more convenient than putting Capture alone on the belt. I own a lot of PD gear and this is as high-quality as anything else.
A couple of things to point out:
1. Keeping Capture up against the belt requires a LOT of torque on the screws to clamp down on the Pro Pad so that it doesn't slide down with the weight of the Camera + lens pulling down on it all day. This is difficult to do with the thumb screws. Using the hex bolts was a no-go because I needed to be able to remove my belt and the Capture Clip to get through security check-points with metal detectors (pretty much everywhere including airports and theme parks). And I think the hex bolts may be a bit long.
2. Capture clip only mounts horizontally (vertical insertion). Vertical insertion is more secure (less prone to accidental release), but it is more difficult to remove camera with one hand. With horizontal insertion (with the lock button facing down), I can grab the camera's grip with 4 fingers and use my pinky to press the lock button. With vertical insertion, this is nearly impossible to do because the grip is much further away from the button and the angle is different.

Makes all the difference!

I’ve been using a Capture Clip for many months, but just recently decided to add a Pro Pad for even better carrying. This small device makes such a difference in carrying comfort and stability. When I’m out for short day photo hike, and all I need is my small waist pack and camera, the capture clip and PRO Pad combo puts my camera in the perfect spot, and the hang is much better than Capture Clip alone on a waist strap or belt. Sometimes the smallest piece of gear makes a huge difference!
