No face recognition. Can barely get the fingerprint security to work, and then when I add a case to protect the phone, I can't get the fingerprint to work at all. Yeah, it makes and received phone calls, surfs the net, but it really seems like an undoveloped product. My least desirable of my last four phones.

Need to fix annoying software bugs
on January 5, 2022
Posted by: Asklepius
I had a Google pixel 3 phone prior to obtaining this pixel 6 device. I had experienced several bugs with my pixel 3 that I thought were due to the devices age. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case because I have continued to experience the same bugs that have been present for years at this point. Specifically with regard to the Google Assistant experience while using driving mode or Android Auto. Now that Android Auto has been discontinued on phone devices without an in-car experience, I have transitioned to Google Assistant driving experience. Experience. There are several times where the Google Assistant asks me a question and then when I respond to the question, the assistant does not hear my response. No matter how loud I say it. This is a bug , not user error. I have not been able to discover any setting changes that correct this behavior. Even when leaving this review I had to restart because mid dictation the Google Assistant thought that I was asking question...

Fingerprint sensor a joke
on January 5, 2022

The fingerprint sensor is on the glass, and works about 50% of the time.My Pixel 5 fingerprint sensor is on the back, and works every time.My Pixel 3 had the same back sensor and worked great. That model also has a squeeze gesture such that you can pull out your phone with one hand, touch the sensor, then squeeze the phone, which activates the assistant. You can then speak a command and it will do it. All this without looking at the phone or taking your eyes off of the road. Now, Google seems to think it's OK to require 100% of your focus to do even the simplest thing with the phone. It's impossible to find the fingerprint sensor without looking at the phone. There is no squeeze gesture anymore. Google has long forgotten the meaning of hands free operation.

A budget premium line phone but not perfect
on January 5, 2022

This has all the common bells and whistles for a premium phone to date. Speedy performance, sturdy build and unique design, simple UI and software support, great cameras (For low light too), screen quality is decent. My only qualms is that the battery could last longer compared to my LG G8X. I am getting about 6 hours SOC. The chipset seems to sip a bit of juice than I would have like so even with toning down everything that drains battery. I wish there is an option for shortcuts to flashlights.

Fingerprint reader
on January 5, 2022

My new Pixel 6, fully updated, is very difficult to unlock with fingerprint. Works 20% of the time. I can't fix it. Very frustrated. The reader worked perfectly on my old pixel 3.

I'll give it a chance to improve it's reputation

Only two things that disappointed me. The first is the thumbprint unlock. Takes multiple attempts to unlock, sometimes necessitating using the numeric unlock. Second is that it will not pair with my hearing aids. I've read that an upcoming patch from Google will address this. The thumbprint problem may take some time to address. The change over from my old Samsung to the Pixel went great. The Pixel has a great display and the camera is perfect. Save for the two aforementioned problems I would have given it a 4 rating.

It's cool. Thumbprint is BAD.

Seamless upgrade from my 4 to the 6. Snappiness and functionality is wonderful. The screen is bright and the interface is simple and intuitive. New chip is super fast. The camera is freaking beautiful as well. Would have much preferred facial recognition like the Pixel 4 over the thumbprint scanner. Thumbprint works so seldom that I gave up on it after about 12 hours. Now I use a code like I'm on my HTC Evo in 2010. Awesome phone otherwise. Even though that is kind of a big caveat.

Seamless upgrade from Pixel 3
on January 5, 2022

Coming from a Pixel 3, this phone was a great upgrade. The 3 had just started to finally show its age by not holding a charge as well and being a little slow in some cases, but otherwise still a great phone. The transition to the 6 was one of the smoothest I've had, and so far the 6 is everything I loved about the 3 except snappier and with a bigger screen and battery and more storage. The camera isn't immediately noticeably better, but I haven't used it much. I like the fingerprint sensor in the middle of the screen instead of the back. It's faster to verify while using the phone, but the downside is it isn't quite as fast to pull out of my pocket and unlock in one motion.I'm still getting used to the larger size (especially with a case), but the increased screen size is nice and it still fits easily enough in a pocket.Reverse charging is a cool gimmick, though I'm not sure how often I'll actually use it.If you loved the 3, I think you'll be quite happy with the 6.
